Getting Started!

Welcome and thank you for supporting Most Wanted.

Please post your challenge to the Most Wanted! Discussion Forum
Click here: Post your Most Wanted/Brick Wall/Broken Link Challenge

There seems to be an RSS feed advantage to posting challenges to the Most Wanted "Discussion Forum" rather than on the "Comment Wall." It's also easier to keep responses and attachments organized if a challenge is posted as a Discussion. Twenty challenges appear on this page; click "View All" to browse the collection and to subscribe to the RSS feed.

In addition to the link above, "Post your Most Wanted ... Challenge," you will find a "Start Discussion" button located on this page at the end of the items in the section that follows "Getting Started."

Hi-
I looked at FindAGrave and there is a photo of the stone, if you go to the site you can do a search for Caroline Kendrick, and its there in Fairmont Cemetery in Colorado. It indicates Caroline died in 1925

Yes he died in colorado , I have his death certificate and will. Caroline seems to be hiding. thanks for asking. I'm not sure if she died in Philidelphia per say, thats just what the stone says. I remember my mom saying she and my grandmother wint to allentwon one time, don't know the year tho. I 'm guessing there was family there.

Hi Carol-
Did Caroline die in Philadelphia and WIlliam die in Colorado? I looked for a death record for William in Philadelphia on Familysearchlabs, didn't see one, also don't see a death record on genealogybank.

My brick wall probably is as easy as sending for a death certificate, but I don't think I have enuff information.

My Great grandmother Caroline Oldacre Kendrick, Husband William Kendrick. According to the family headstone at Fairmont Cemetary, Denver, Colorado, died in 1928 and is buried in Philadelphia. period. Faimont only has the information that is on the stone, nothing else in their paperwork. William dide in 1903 and is buried at Fairmont. According to my mom, who is deceased, after her husbands death she visited the daughters and stayed with them taking turns. Sometimes in Denver and sometimes in Pennsylvania.

Does anyone have any ideas for finding a possible death notice or obituary.

Thanks for any help.

Philip TRAVIS,b. 1785 VA. So what county in VA. were you born? Who are your parents/siblings? Were you married to anyone in VA. before leaving for East TN? You moved to Jefferson Co., TN. by 1817. Married twice there and had at least 16 children. Probably English in origin?

Does anybody have any access to the Boston Immigration records?? I've been told that Anna Lindstrom (1892 - 1930) came in thru there. I just don't have access to the records. And Heck if I can find Aino E. (1894 - 1970). No clue what her last name is and the only records I can find of her are some newspaper clippings about the land she and her husband (Robert Nestor... who came over in 1911) owned and what cemetary she's at. Both Anna Lindstrom and Aino E were married to Robert Nestor Lehto. I have found the marriage record of Robert and Anna. They got married in Detroit in 1913 (altho their marriage record says his last name is Lehta....his O's kinda do look like A's...*lol*) and then moved to NY around 1920. I just need the immigration records for both wives...would be alot easier if I knew Aino's last name.

Hi All-

I just joined this group, hoping someone can help me. My brick wall is William A Lavelle. He was my SO's great great grandfather. He was an actor in the 1870s-1890s, and a wild west/circus performer. In his older years, he made a living from his physical likeness to Buffalo Bill.

I know when died, where he is buried, his second wife's name, I found him on the 1910 and 1920 census, when he is in his 60s and 70s. But he appears on no census records that i can find besides a possible match in 1870 in a military fort. I also have him as the father of WIlliam Lavelle (later changed to John Henry) John Henry's mother was Clara/Carrie Erickson Lavelle, no proof of marriage, but William had been married twice according to the 1910 census. He was a survivor of a fire that killed many actors in Wisconsin circa 1893. I believe he worked at McVickers theater in Chicago as an actor/super, and also may have have worked with Edwin Booth in NY.
I have used the Old Fulton NY postcard site with some success, but nothing that adds to his biography.

I have numerous articles regarding his acting career including a long interview he gave circa 1912-1913 before he left for Australia to become the manager of a Wild West show in Australia which ultimately failed because of the type of carriages they used. In the interview, he claimed to have been born in 1848, to James and Anna Lavelle in Butler, PA. But I can find no record of a James or Anna Lavelle in Butler County. He claimed to have been a spy in the Civil War, and later a scout, then discharged at Leavenworth. I haven't been able to prove or disprove any of it, though most of it seems unlikely.

Also, at one point William F Cody(Buffalo BIll) brough suit again a show he was working in, "Young Buffalo" as Buffalo Bill wanted him to cease and desist using the name 'Buffalo'. They settled out of court.

I found an article in 1901 re a William A Lavelle who was involved in a stabbing in a theater(he was purported to be the stabber), but can't determine if it was him, but it could be since he never seemed to be there after 1901.

I believe he lived mostly in Chicago and NY

So, I'm hoping someone can help me figure out where I can find more data on him that is provable. :)

(You can see one of the photos of him leading a parade on my home page)

Thanks!
Kate
