Some of the state censuses are stored at the state archives. If you go to their website and look under their circulars, they have one for state censuses and this shows which ones they have.

I have seen some articles on David O'killia in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register about 1997. David lived in Massachusetts and my line of ancestors ended up moving to Rhode Island and then Vermont.
The curly bangs came into style in 1876 and went out in the mid 1880's and the neckline fits this time period as well. A plainer neckline came into fashion about 1884. Fargo, D. T. probably stands for Fargo, Dakota Territory.

The second photo is typical of clothing in the early 1860's. I have a picture in one of my clothing books that shows almost the identical suit dated 1860.

I looked at my books and the hat style went out by about 1905. I found a dress and a hat much like she was wearing dated 1901. However the fashion was very similar from about 1897-1905. So I would date it during this time period.

For what reason did you start genealogy research?
My father's surname is Northrup and my mother had a grandmother whose maiden name was Northrup and I wanted to see if they are related and they are not at least as far back as the mid 1600's.
