My ggrandfather, Patrick Ready's naturalization record states that he came over in 1862 when he was 15. I was told that since he was under 21 years of age, he could have filed for a declaration of intention and his naturalization at the same…
A great way to find ancestors is in Naturalization Records. Passports, Oaths of Allegiance, Denizations and other Citizenship records are available for many countries
Ggrandfather Patrick Ready was supposedly from Cty Cork. I've been told the name is usually spelled REIDY in Ireland, although variations like REDDY, REIDY, and REID, are used as another name for red or someone who has a ruddy complexion.…
Ggrandfather Patrick Ready supposedly came over from Ireland to the U S in 1862, which was during the Civil War. At which port would he have come through, as the southern ports may have been closed.
The starting point for documenting the voyages of your immigrant ancestors –and many native-born ancestors- should be the official customs lists and the later immigration manifests required by the U.S. government as of 1820.
Saw your comment to me about Gordons. My Gordons settled in Fayette Cty, PA, then moved to various places in Ohio. I have started a Family Tree at ancestry.com on my line. I'm still working on it.
A long time ago a distant cousin Graham line) made up a family tree book and gave it to me. I still have some of it. I do not know who Robert's father was or where he came from although I do think the Gordons were Scots or Scotch Irish 1-8…

Hi Annette,
The Reedy name is my married name. I don't know too much about it. My husband's family came from Missouri, but before that, I don't know. My step-son has been doing some searching and I think the family came from Ireland, but not sure. I have also heard that it could have been McReedy. Sorry I don't have any more info than that.
I am the admin from the Guild of One-Name Studies group which it seems you have tried to join.
The Guild's group is currently restricted to members of the Guild's society. As far as I am aware you are not a Guild member and as such I can not approve your request to join the Guild's group.
If you are interested in One-Name Studies then I suggest you consider joining the Guild. You can find information on the Guild at www.one-name.org
No, my READY family were in London in 1800, moved to Grimsby, discovered gold in Australia, then came back & made money through fishing boats in Grimsby. sorry not to be able to help!
Hello Annette -
Thanks for your message when subscribing to England. FreeBMD and the censuses are the main resources you'll need to use - I don't see anyone with a relevant conection at genesreunited. I see you've mentioned your hunt on various of the genealogy boards already. I've checked the Guild of One-Name Studies for you & there isn't a MUMFORD study. Certainly you've well publicised your hunt around the net - I hope it bears fruit at some stage!
