Hi Heather, I think we are fine, will you look at the clip that follows and confirm.

This clip from the Genealogical Summary I sent (emphasis added; reference nos. removed):

Thomas Scanlon/Scanlan, b. ca1902, married, as her second husband, Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska, 1 Oct 1927, Minnie (Bayles) Wilty. She was born Iowa, ca1905, daughter of Will and Goldie (Simpson) Bayles. Minnie and Thomas Scanlon were divorced before 1936. Minnie had been first married to Walter Wilty. Minnie and Thomas Scanlon were divorced. Minnie married third, Douglas County, Nebraska, April 1936 to Herbert K. King.

Hi Heather:

While the links and some formatting might be lost in translation, below is the note I sent to Gary. I attached both the 1930 census and the marriage record.

Hi Gary Rosenberg:

Thank you for your time yesterday. A short genealogical summary about Thomas Scanlon/Scanlan follows this note. At 1930, this man resided 2114 Chicago Street (3rd floor), Omaha; he worked for a railroad, then said a cook.

Thomas is said to have had a daughter. After her parents had separated (between 1930 and 1936), when the daughter was still very small, she _was told_ a friend of Thomas Scanlon had come to the family home with notification of Scanlon’s death. The daughter has never been able to confirm his death or learn more about him--wonders if he was really did then die. Daughter thought her father’s middle name was “Sean” (Thomas Sean Scanlon) [further, Sean said Irish variant of John]. She believed her father worked for a railroad with a Chicago station (daughter was told she was born at a house in Chicago; that her birth was never registered). The daughter thought her father, Thomas Scanlon, was born at Co. Cork, Ireland. Daughter hopes to now learn more about the father. What was his middle name? Did he really died in the 1930’s as she was told?

As the 1930 census places the Thomas at Omaha, we’d like to learn evidence of the name “Thomas Scanlon/Scanlan” from the Omaha city directories of the day. We understand city directories are extant from before and at the time Thomas and Minnie married (1927), through about the time Minnie m3 at Omaha (1936).

In addition to our interest in the way his name was represented, we hope to learn if Thomas was listed in the city directory at the time of the Scanlon-Wilty marriage (1927); if he was residing at Omaha at the time the dau. was born (1928-1929), how his name and occupations were listed in the 1930 directory (for which we have a comparative census) and how long the directories suggest Thomas Scanlon continued to reside at Omaha after that census. If Minnie Scanlon appears separately in one of the 1930-1935 directories, the earliest such separate entry might help us identify when Thomas and Minnie were divorced.

Separately, we’d also like to learn if the historical society’s clipping file has notice for death or accident, etc., involving a Thomas Scanlon/Thomas E. Scanlon/Thomas S. Scanlon/Sean Scanlon.

Have attached a census image and the Scanlon/Wilty marriage record; below have included a rough genealogical summary about this man, Thomas Scanlon.

Thank you for whatever assistance you are able to provide. –GeneJ, Most Wanted! Ancestors Lost and Found.

Hi Heather:

Will you let me know if it is okay for me to include digital image of the marriage certificate with note I'm sending to Douglas County Historical Society?

See my post a few minutes ago to your challenge:
Gary Rosenberg, archivist, Douglas County (Nebraska) Historical Society, interview (telephonic) by GJ 14 Oct 2009, regarding Thomas Scanlon and Scanlon-Wilty marriage; file memorandum.

Heather:
Hope we are developing some good information for your research log.

BTW, believe it will be more clear if you show your grandmother's name in a more conventional fashion, ala Minnie Lucille (Bayles) (Wilty) (Scanlon) King.

Hope this helps. --GJ
