Genealogy Topics Running Across my Screen

Genealogy Topics that of late run across my screen have been varied and interesting and wondering if we need to back up or slow down and re address our research.

One I liked was what are your favorite top websites to use for research. This is a question that comes with many answers, at least that is my prospective.

Lets say we are doing New England research, and had just stopped tracking the name in VA.
Well in Virginia you would use…

Medical GENEALOGY to be Presented by Susi Pentico

Now I find it interesting that no one commented on the topic of Medical Genealogy.

Does that mean everyone knows what it is and what it can do for us?

This topic will be shared in Vital Chats in another week.

Mom's Birthday Surprise, Need Your Help

HI Everyone,

I am asking for your help if you think this would be fun.

Mom will be 90 in June. I thought it would be fun if she received cards from people wishing her a 90th birthday. Someone mentioned 90 cards for 90th birthday, so that is my goal, the more the better.

My brother is giving her a celebration party but this is something she can remember and cherish for a long time.

She is the one that got me started in genealogy. I know some of you are…

After my talk on doing Genealogy Finding Who You Are. Which was intended to get people started with out incurring major expense. Genealogy can be fun and educational, it can help one to better understand their family and it's past. We are the sum of that past and our children and grandchildren are the sum of ours. complete this big puzzle.

In the same time era I am searching for the ancestors of Susan Madison which I believe was Mattison.

"Who do you think you Are " & White Glove Preservation

Just a reminder that the TV series "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE" , is airing again tonight.

The series seem to get better with each episode. I want to comment on the white glove situation.

I recently was handling a book and felt the white gloves were stressing the pages so this is what

I did. I put the gloved hand on the page that was holding the pages and gently used the end of my

finger (ungloved) to move the pages. I think it did the book much less harm. …

Faces of America and GenealogyBank comments

Today we were able to watch a segment on Faces of America. The hope to encourage people to learn more about whom they are and whom in their back ground helped to make them whom they are.

It was great with the diversity of the people interviewed and researched, to learn that there was even an interconnect between two of them. No I will not tell the whom's.

Then in the blog GenealogyBank.com by Thomas Kemp there was a great start of how to start your Genealogy. It was labeled… Continue

Scott Research Mix Mash Mulligan in Orange Co. VA

As I am watching the early film THE FUGITIVE I spent my time scanning early records that were posted on usgenweb.org. I did not find much but some tidbits that sent me to rootsweb.com to find queries that

people have posted over the last ten years.

It appears an old friend is going to link in again to another line. It also appears I may have found where

to seriously dig for more information.

The site boasted an early map of Orange Co and its splinters off but it… Continue

Genealogy Changes over the Years.

Changing Research Methods over Time

Mini version of talk presented to CVGS.

I have done research for many years, my Grandfather Hoffman had a great hand in developing the curiousity for research of the family. My Grandfather Jones created the same curiosity by saying " You won't like them, they are not nice". That only fueled the want to learn more. BTW, The family wasn't bad when I met them but they did have one individual that had made many peoples lives very miserable.… Continue

Census Advise that is good besides unique.

A friend just sent this to my mailbox and I am going to mention it here. What a terrific idea and how silly it makes me feel that I never thought of doing this myself.

When you census papers arrive, after you fill them out copy them for your files and save them. Then in before 72 years shows up your data is there for future generations. Attach your census data to you genealogy that the family will have for the future.

Now I am wondering if under the Freedom of Information… Continue

SCOTT, Thomas in VA and SCOTT, JOHN in Canada and probably MASS before early to mid 1700's.

Another Day Another Time, Chasing down a family line. Scott's that are beating out of time.

We are excited and confused. But we will take what we are given. We are now up to 4 perfect matches on the Scott line. How is yet to be determined. We suspect the VA Scott will fairly easily link in since we do not have all of Thomas Scott's data from him being in Pittsylvania Co. VA. Isaac are you a brother to John? It could easily be.

Now the Canadian line has created quite a… Continue
