Genealogy Wise

The Genealogy & Family History Social Network

We held our mini seminar at the South Branch Library last Saturday. We had 25+ people in attendance.
Many were new faces and we were glad to see this turn out.

After my talk on doing Genealogy Finding Who You Are. Which was intended to get people started with out incurring major expense. Genealogy can be fun and educational, it can help one to better understand their family and it's past. We are the sum of that past and our children and grandchildren are the sum of ours. They need to learn about family and trends and traits and goals and dreams achieved and times when things were hard.

With the times as they are now we wanted people to know you do not have to spend lots of money to start your research.

You start with your mind, your heart and the things you have in your home that bring back memories.
You gather them, you catalog them and you then can start your tree.

There are also many sites that you can search online either in your home or at the library with a computer to assist you. These are also listed to help people get started.

I highlighted this site because of it's chat rooms and classes and the blog abilities. It comes close to being what we had in the Old Golden Gate Forum on AOL owned by George F. my Tracy cousin.

I recommend that people use: usgenweb.org for the United States and worldgenweb.org for the world. I also recommended the use of Rootsweb.com even though it's affiliated with Ancestry that segment has remained free for researchers.

There are sites like deadfred.com, findagrave, and others. I like to use State Archives and Libraries and Cindi's List. I also use google.com alot to find information.

I use societies web pages for information also.

My great find was a attendee who is a LEE and he relates to the same LEE as me.
