My Presentation Assignment: Lecture Course Final Module

Shannon Bennett, Student

On January 9th I gave my virtual presentation for Lecturing Skills Including Preparation. I was very nervous. More nervous than I have been in a long time, mainly because I knew I wouldn’t be able to see my audience.  That to me was the biggest hurdle. Not being able to gauge my audience’s reactions.…

Your German Migrant Ancestor

By Jean Wilcox Hibben, PhD.

If your ancestor was an auswanderer – one who left the area now called Germany – with a group of other like-minded individuals, he/she was an emigrant and might be found in any number of locations.

You are probably already familiar with the phenomenon of “push-pull” when it comes to emigration/immigration. North America was hardly the only option for those seeking a better life. For some, it was a “stop along the…

Preparing to Present: Lecturing Skills Including Presentation

Shannon Bennett, Student

In the introduction to the course Lecturing Skills Including Preparation,  author Thomas MacEntee writes how he became the genealogy speaker he is today.  Guess what? There was no magic formula, just a lot of hard work.  I figured this was the case, but you know that I…

Genealogical Sources

Examples of sources include documents/records, books, photographs, artifacts, websites, newspapers, video or audio recorded interviews, and people. Working on the Family Tree and What did I See?

As I was working on my family tree, what did I see?   Something that really surprised me.

You see bullying is something that, I have been around many, many years.  Working in the school system, we learned a

lot  of  about bullying.  What causes it? What may prevent it? Why does it happen?

So as I was reading an old newspaper article was surprised to see this topic is probably as old as humans now I fear.

Why is it so hard to steer a…

11 September 2018, Where were you? 11 Sept 2001

A day for us to always remember  11 September 2001.  Where were you on this day?

Do you have it in your genealogical file?   Have you shared the information of this day with

       your children and grandchildren.

This information should be included in your time line and so it is not forgotten, in case the other

part of the  world wants us to forget.

If you have forgotten much of it, or…

Researching during the Summer

  Researching during the Summer

Yes, it can be fun, or it can be stressful. If you get to go to a AC'd library it's super. If you set at home and have only fans not always greatly desired.

I think weather affects our drive to do research.  Do you notice if weather affects your research?  Since I was  at the Seminar in Grand Rapids many things are made more aware than before.  It was an awesome program. I hope they do it again.

   When I was…

Seeking some assistance to further the Francis Genealogical Tree in Wales

Hello fellow Historians,

Most of my present family of FRANCIS, have mostly lived in the County of Surrey, but in the 19th century their dwellings were In London? I have traced my lineage to Clun in Shropshire, England, with still away to go; to the early 18th Century. I located a ancestor with the name Richard Francis, who married a lady (May 31, 1761) to Sarah Squire?  but the most interesting lineage is Welsh; or on the borders of Wales?

Located a…

Spending Time,, Doing Genealogy

This is about how you spend your time doing genealogy.    Or how maybe you should

delve deeper into your needs and wants.

Somehow there is a mixed message happening. You want more information on your line.

Where should I look, who can help me. Is it going to be free or cost me.

Just today I had to say that this is a hobby or life long goal but  you can…
