Do you have a person who passed away in August 1937 in the welch area? Have yu tired looking up there obt. that might tell you what funeral home was used for them.

Does anyone know what funeral homes were open in Welch, WVA area in August 1937? Would there be any records anywhere of the funeral arrangements made at that time?

I have been doing research on my family off and on for about 9 years. One of the lines that have been very difficult is my paternal Grandfather. His name was Schly Van Hudson and was born in Kanawha Co. WV. His parents were Jasper Lee Hudson and Bertie Ann Estep. I found them in the census when my Grandfather was 2 years old. I have not been able to find out anything past Jasper and Bertie. I would appreciate any help someone might be able to give me.

Diane, if memory serves, I found the Hu Maxwell book and the Rutger Johnson book at the Hacker Creek Pioneer Descendants library in Horner, WV (near Weston). They are a wonderful resource for WV researchers.

Paula~I have read a few pages of the Hu Maxwell book...another reseacher sent me a couple of pages. It didnt really help.....I'll need to purchase the book and read thru the whole thing to get a feel for the people. I did know that Ebenezer married Rachel Johnson and I have a bit of info up to Rutger Johnson, but was unaware of any book.....any suggestions where I can obtain the book? Like interlibrary.....

Hi Diane and welcome to the WV forum. Isaac and John, twins born on 20 Feb 1796 in Randolph Co., were the sons of Ebenezer T. Kelley and Rachel Johnson. Both sons are mentioned in Ebenezer's Will. He died in 1816 in Randolph Co. Isaac (brother of John) died in 1845 in Monroe Co., OH. A good source of info on the Kelley family in WV is Hu Maxwell's History of Barbour Co, A WPA project compiled marriage records, etc., which have been abstracted and published in several places. The Kelley family came to Randolph Co. from Somerset County, NJ. Another source is "Descendants of Wouter Van Bosch (Rutger Johnson), compiled by Franklein Dale Nestor. Hope this info helps.
