Genealogy e-Book publishing

You have your genealogy book already to publish and then start finding

out the cost of self-publishing a bound book. It is sort-of like the

sticker shock of trying to buy a new car. Now all that is in the past.

With the advent of the new e-readers like the Amazon

Kindle
, Apple… Continue

The Mystery of Jonathan Batchelder, Chichester, New Hampshire

The Batchelder name is liberally sprinkled over New Hampshire. There are eight Batchelder/Bacheller families listed in the white pages for the Londonderry area. There are Batchelder Roads in towns from Hampton, to Strafford, to Raymond, to Nashua. The first Batchelder immigrant to the New World was…

Any other person researching Portarlington Ireland Huguenots.

Is anyone researching the Huguenots that removed to Portarlington, Ireland. Some of those Portarlington Huguenots moved in 1732 to Williamsburg, South Carolina, America. Does anyone know if there is a list of those people that left?

A Richard Cassel, (AKA Richard Castle ) a prominent architect in Dublin, Ireland. Stated that his family were French Huguenots that escaped…

Finding Kerlin's Well -- the search continues

After finding a picture, a video and a few other references to Kerlin's Well,

we drove north out of Phoenix by way of Prescott to the small community

of Ashfork

which is west of Flagstaff on I40. The only directions we had to the

rock where my great-grandfather carved his name in 1877 was the brief

description of "9 miles north of… Continue

Looking for any information I can find

I have done pretty extensive research in the past 6 months and found out quite a bit in regards to my maternal grandfather's family. Neal Hobbs is my great-great grandfather. He had a VERY interesting relationship with his wife, Ellen's, sisters. He had MANY children by more than one of his Ellen's sisters, my great-grandmother being one of the sisters, Delia. So needless to say its been an interesting background to trace. Incidentally because of his infamy, he is the one that the family has… Continue

Still searching

I went searching for an ancestor, I cannot find him still.

He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will.

He married where a courthouse burned, he mended all his fences.

He avoided any man who came, to take the local Census.

He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame,

And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name.

His parents came from England, they should be on some list,

but for unknown reasons, somehow they got… Continue

Developing a metageanalogy

As metaphilosophy

is the study of the nature, aims and methods of philosophy. I would

submit that, in the same vein, a metagenealogy would be the study of the

nature, aims and methods of genealogy. I did not originate the term "metagenealogy"

but its previous use, as far as I can… Continue

Finding Kerlin's Well -- I begin the search

Kerlin's Well, where my great-grandfather carved his name into the rock in 1877,

turns out to be very elusive. March in northern Arizona is an

interesting month. Warm sunny days can turn icy cold and very windy. Our

first expedition turned out to have all types of weather.

Are Your Ancestors from Venne, Osnabrück region of Germany?

I became solidly hooked on Genealogy when our friend and historian Udo Thoerner showed my husband and me the Büning ancestral home, a farm cottage, in the village of Venne, Germany with the names of his 4th-ggrandparents inscribed over the door and the year 1704 by the builder's name . What led us to this discovery was Thoerner's twenty years of curiosity and research about what happened to over 2000 emigrants from his home village of Venne and neighboring farm communities in Westfalen,…

My favorite genealogy websites

Because I found I was going back to the same great websites over and over, and am constantly sharing web addresses with other people, I put together a toolbar for my computer so that I can easily access all my favorite genealogy websites. Its is set up so anybody can download it and use it for free, too. a I constantly update it when I find new sites, or if somebody suggests a good solid one to me. There is… Continue

"Who do you think you Are " & White Glove Preservation

Just a reminder that the TV series "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE" , is airing again tonight.

The series seem to get better with each episode. I want to comment on the white glove situation.

I recently was handling a book and felt the white gloves were stressing the pages so this is what

I did. I put the gloved hand on the page that was holding the pages and gently used the end of my

finger (ungloved) to move the pages. I think it did the book much less harm. …

Where is Beryer Wales?

Would anyone know where "Beryer, Wales" is? This is the birthplace given by my great great Robert Lloyd on the 1851 census. He was a servant for the Weldon family in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. As I have been unable to find it in any gazeteer I feel that the spelling was corrupted by accent and/or illiteracy on behalf of Robert. He was born about 1793 and married Elizabeth Phipps in 1814 in England. Any ideas as to what area or townland he was born in would be most
appreciated.
