I see you are a professional level genealogist so wonder if you would be interested in seeing what we can find of the EDWARDS family. My maternal grandmother's family spent some time in county Kilkenny before moving to Canada but it is the time before this that interests me.

Various family trees have mentioned an Edwards Hall near Cardiff as birth places for Richard (1523 and son Richard B on 22 Nov 1566), Joshua in 1582 or 1584 as well as a Thomas who was born in 1639 and died in 1671. Do you have any idea where this Edwards Hall might be?

The other Edwards puzzle is up by Bangor where the paper I was given has a Francis Edwards born about 1705 and leaving for Ireland from ILDOEL. Other "genealogists" spell it as ILDOORL and ODOWIL but when I wrote to the college archivist in Bangor, he said none of them meant anything in either Welsh or English. I've been unable to reach any of the people who used the spellings as two have died and others have changed their e-mail addresses since posting. Help! I look forward to the scenery but I'd really prefer to get some answers! Carolyn

I posted some family surnames and haven't received a response. I'm working from family stories as to my ancestry and who knows. Is there a possible way to check to see if any of the following existed in Wales, Ireland, Scotland or England prior to 1800: TIFFEE/TIFFIE, OLLAR/OLLER/OLER, MAYS/MAYES, and GARNER. All of these were in the US prior to 1800 but no origin. Any help to locate their whereabouts in Europe would certainly be appreciated. This would at least give me a place to start searching.

I'm in the process of applying for birth certificates from the GRO for a many family members as possible (a few at a time, of course). I already received the first few I requested. I missed on one of them and got a certificate for the wrong person. Next time, I'll try using the parents names, too.
