I have connections to MATON & WATERS in my Hampshire families. These are relatives who have married people with these surnames.

My Hamshire connections come though my RAMPTON family line. My direct branch came to the USA in 1850s. They came from Basingstoke and Monk Sherborne area of Hampshire.

Anthony RAMPTON (1790-1878) married Mary ASH (1795-1871)

their son Edmund RAMPTON (1829/Basingstoke, Hampshire, England-1899/Benton, Iowa) married Mary Jane ELLIOTT (1836/Michigan-1899/Iowa)

Their son Charles Henry RAMPTON (1868/Iowa-1946/California) married Blanche Annette PAGE (1868/Missouri - 1962/California)

My interest in Hampshire lies in the BOXALL name and variants. Having researched my own BOXALL family I had accumulated a lot of data. With this I decided to turn my research into a One Name Study World Wide. Hence I registered with the Guild of One Name Studies. That being said I now have an extensive BOXALL (and Variant) database. I love to help others with their research and am always happy when I am send new details that I had not yet come across. If you are interested in the name you will find I have a BOXALL group here too.

When we were returning on the Ferry from Isle of Wight to Portsmouth we discovered that the Hampshire coastline has its own"White Cliffs" and especially loved by us as we hadn't made it to Dover!

I do have some information on this Church from the internet. It was built in 1864 in Surrey Street. It was damaged during WW2 and not repaired. There should be a plaque fixed to the Bank which was erected on the site but it was not found last year when I visited the site. I have not tried the Record Office yet.

We suspect that the Circus School was attached to the Circus Church - which was in Edinburgh Rd. So called because the arrangement of the pews was like a circus ring! Have you tried Portsmouth Record Office for details of the School?
