Comment by Bob Rowe on October 8, 2010 at 7:14am: Hey Arthur, to see the full 800px image requires two more clicks at the memorial page. FAG automatically creates a thumbnail on the memorial page. Click that to open a larger thumbnail. Click on the image one more time to see your 800px version.

They were in MA, VA, spelled Slayton, they are all over the South, VA, SC, NC, GA, TN, KY, MO, AR, OK, TX. They were prolific little devils.

The spellings get interchanged sometimes, especially by the clerks.

Comment by Julia Mitchel on September 14, 2010 at 10:58pm: Hey Joyce, thats my neck of the woods, I am from Paducah, family in Caldwell, Graves, Fulton, and early Livingston. Keep your eyes peeled for any Slaton, Slayton, Slatton, Slayden grave stones.
We have a one name study (33 spellings) of these lines.

Comment by Joyce Garrott on September 14, 2010 at 11:46am: Julia, I am also a FAG addict, I volunteer in the western part of KY, mainly in Trigg but have done some in Christian, Caldwell, Lyon, Marshall and Calloway counties. But I have been doing genealogy research since the mid 70's.

Comment by Pat Wilkerson on September 10, 2010 at 10:19am: My method for a living person, on a tombstone, is to leave the name, for connecting families, etc., but edit out the birth date, for privacy reasons. The obits do give the surviving spouse's name, but not birth dates. I either put a block over the date, or use the erase feature, and just erase the date.

I have used method 3 a fair amount but now I use method 2 by cropping the living spouse out. I also add an explanation in the caption. I think it is best to use method 3. However, most of these cases have an obituary listed in the local paper showing all the survivors anyway and that is public information. I don't consider it a critical situation either way. What I have seen that I think is wrong is where someone adds a memorial for the living spouse leaving the death date empty. WRONG - WRONG - WRONG!
