It's true, Julia, it's easy to make free phone calls and applaud you for knowing how! Some people just don't grasp technology as well as others I guess. I have unlimited calling on my cell and my home phone (a package) that's really cheap. I guess we could start a whole other conversation on why cemeteries can be so unhelpful! LOL

Try the Lexington Cemetery with over 20,000 Memorials listed and not counting the Military section. So many of the stones are not legible due to moss and tree grunge, so the light has to be right, or we have to get on the ground and take the photo up, or we have to lightly brush the moss off, or pour water on the stone.

Its not like its a five minute job, yesterday I got to the Lexington Cemetery, right behind the police and a funeral, so had to wait till it was over. Who knew.

Sarah, I am smiling, and my husbands family is from Coles Co, IL.

just to play devils advocate. i personally cant afford a cell phone. i do my communication through the internet. its my trade off. i can even text from my email. and no, not every cemetery has email access... and..when did vonage become free? is phone service. last i hear it cost 10-15 a month on top of your internet bill. did i miss some change? would be wonderful if it was, thats for sure

@Allyssa Ah, I didn't know that. However, it's not the ad that bothers me so much as the fact that the site is making money by me looking at it or clicking on it. Blocking it doesn't take the money away from them.

no, Eric, there are blockers for ads actually on the page. it depeneds on which browser you use though. the ones i've seen don't remove the area where the ad was, but blocks the image from loading. which i can settle for.

Guess that is why they call this a Democracy, different opinions work.

I used to spent time in the Cemetery offices and still do when I have time, and if I build a rapport with someone and they email me to do extra research then I do it.

If the people in the Cemetery office see you a lot and are know what you are doing they can be helpful. Each one is different.

Most people now have cell phones they pay for monthly anyway, they can make the call free.  If they cannot afford a phone call how are they affording the computer and the internet?

Just saying, I understand Vonage is free also.

eric, what you said about taking something for fact. i agree. even when a location is given, i still call. i often see wrong locations listed. so its just easier to confirm.

sarah, just your name alone made me smile lol my Great Great Grammy was born Sarah Coles. so you made me think of her. thank you :D lol

@Sarah, are you talking about the pop-up blocker for ads? If so, those only work for ads that actually pop up in a new window, not for ads that are built into the web page itself. If that's not what you meant...sorry!

I did that too, I took a bunch of photos when I was out taking specific marker photos in hopes that there might be people that need them. But some cemeteries, are huge Julia. One that I go to out here has over 5000 plots. It would take months to scour it for a marker, without help. I also live near two celebrity-filled Forest Lawn cemeteries that have miles of winding streets through the hills...very difficult to walk through...and tiring!

You can't take what people say at Findagrave or anywhere else for that fact, personally. There are strange people out there!

:)  Glad someone is smiling here!  Sure does alleviate a lot of headaches.
