Got my offical notice that I am now a member of the DAR. Now will gather everything up again and submit for my daughter. Next goal, to get all the documentations for my husband's application to SAR.

Hello all, I met with the Vice Regent/Acting Regent of my local DAR chapter yesterday and got my application going. I'm happy I took the step, even though I still need lots of information.

Is there anyone in this group who has joined through a female ancestor? The DAR website states that you can join through a female ancestor who provided some kind of service during the war. I have an ancestor who nursed injured soldiers during the war and is therefore eligible for DAR. My problem is, since she wasn't in the military, where do I even begin to find the necessary proof of service for her? What would be examples of acceptable proof of service for a female Patriot who didn't serve in a military capacty? Thank you to anyone able to answer this.

Good Evening ... A quick note to introduce myself and tell everyone how much I have enjoyed reading some of the posts. I am a member of the Ah Dah Wa Gam Chapter in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, where I serve as the Recording and Corresponding Secretary - newsletter editor, VIS chairman, Public Relations and Media and am a DAR Genealogy Consultant. I know there are many members here who also wear a number of hats at the chapter and state level. Looking forward to more posts and reading. Fondly, Cindy

Just a note to let everyone who has helped me in the last few months, I mailed my application and documents out today to the DAR headquarters. Now the waiting game begins on whether I am accepted or not. Wish me luck. It took me five months to get everything gathered up on my mother's father side. Now going to work on hubby's to see about his Revolution Ancestors. It is already proving to be a challenge. Will let you all know when I hear from Washington.

Elaine - Here's a link that outlines the steps to membership http://www.dar.org/natsociety/content.cfm?id=92&hd=n&pf=n There is a link to a genealogy worksheet towards the bottom; I find the worksheet very handy. You'll need to prove your lineage; births, marriage, and deaths for each generation as well as the link between the generations. I'd suggest certificates where ever possible for the first 3-4 generations. After that baptism records, land records, probate records, court documents, sometimes even census records can be used. Lastly, you'll need to prove your ancestor's service. If you get in touch with a local chapter (reference link above); they can help you too, but this should get you started. Good luck and keep us posted.

Betty Jo - Wow. Heritage Quest is my go to source for pensions. Does your local library have JSTOR or Footnote? They may have pensions.
