It creates a whole new program, it does not over write the old one. The only thing is that once you create a tree in 2010 format it will not open in the older program so you might want to backup your tree in the older format first. Then do it in 2010.

Judy - You can not directly take a Family Tree Maker Version 2010 and open it with Version 2006. But that has been true on all new versions of Famliy Tree Maker. Version 2010 DOES have the ability to export the 2010 file to a GEDCOM file for Version 16 (2006).

When I get mine I think I will save 2006 on another computer. I heard that you can't download 2010 into 2006.

Just got my new FTM 2010. Having done anything with it yet as I have to download a bunch of stuff that I have saved in different files. Does anyone know do I have to delete the Fanily Tree version I already have on my computer? Thank you.

I am having trouble finding out how my G/Grandfather came to Australia. I have checked all Australian records. Convicts, Assisted and Unassisted lists but no luck. Is there anything I can check from the English records that would tell me when and how he left England. He wa born in Little Shelford Cambridgeshie England in 1839, appeared on the 1851 census and married out here in 1871 so the time span would be between 1851 and 1871. any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rhoda. Keep us informed about how it goes. It won't be easy to reinstall all your stuff if you have all the junk I do on my computer. Good you have someone to help you as it won't be easy. Good luck with it al.

To Betty--I printed out a bunch of stuff yesterday from FTM 2010 and was delighted with the results. You might find the Outline Descendants Report useful for your library and court house trips. So far I really like this new FTM. One thing though, it is a computer hog.

To Stephanie: I expect Win 7to be shipped sometime in October. I have to have my computer friend come over and help me back up everything before I install new operating system. There's alot I don't know about computers, and don't want to lose everything, plus have to run Win 7 upgrade advisor as I may need to add stuff to my computer before I put program on. I'll keep you posted!
