I have touched slightly in other blog postings about GenealogyWise, specifically my review of the site. Today, I have not been able to really use the site for its intended purpose because I have been working on a tutorial for the "Professional/Technical Communication" course I am currently in. (I received my bachelor of science in psychology in May and will begin a master's program in psychology with a specialization in psychology of culture in September. My career goal is to be an online instructor/curriculum developer/researcher/writer). My tutorial is on how to use GenealogyWise.com.
I just spent two hours going through each link, creating another profile (which I deleted once I had completed the process as to not have any ghost profiles on the site), and taking notes on how to invite friends, add friends, create and customize a page, and on how to use the forum, groups, blogs, and chat. After creating these notes for the tutorial I will spend the next few days creating I realized just how easy this site is to use. I have been on Facebook for over a year and I still get confused by the site. I stick to updating my status, sharing articles I have read, responding to my friend's comments and status updates, and taking quizzes. I also have a MySpace page, which I have had since 2006. I remember having to have a friend who was already on MySpace help my friend and I design our pages and teach us every little thing about MySpace because for some reason it was over our heads. And I am a smart woman.
I have found none of these issues with GenealogyWise. I am really impressed with how easy this social network site is to use. The developers of this site have really taken the time to keep their audience in mind and have made the site simple to use. I believe this will work to their advantage as the site continues to grow rapidly. I am glad that I found out about this site in time for my tutorial project so I could do my project on the site. I feel more at home on this site, even though not one person who is a friend of mine I have known for more than a week.
I just want to say thank you to the developers/creators of this site and every single member for making this site user friendly, accessible, and home for my social networking needs in genealogy. I look forward to watching the site grow with all of you and becoming more and more a family as it does.
