Sally, sometimes a file has been renamed so the extension displays "JPG" but the format of the file may not actually be JPG. Many picture programs will still open and display the picture, and may not alert you to the problem. I would recommend opening the file in a picture viewing/editing program, then choosing "Save As" and selecting a different file name, and verify the format selected is JPG. Then try uploading this newly saved file.

I've got some additional photo and album tips over in the Member-2-Member help section.

I was trying to upload my picture to my personal settings. It is a jpg file, but they system tells me there is an error and I have to use jpg.....format. Could the problem be that I am on dial up and it is too slow?

HMTL code and links don't like spaces Jill. So the field is probably trying to correct the potential problem by truncating after the space. You could try typing in %20 in-place of the space (this is a character replacement in HTML).

I'm wondering if you could post the text of comments in our email the way it's done on facebook. Then we'd know immediately whether or not further involvement was required. Thx

When I first started out on the Net over 10 years ago doing research work. There were only a few sites that you could do any real work off. Rootsweb was one of them and still hands down my favorite place to do research work. Then you had Cyndi list which was another great site. Then came Familysearch webpage.
Whoever came up with this site knew what they were doing. Its great keep it up and keep free so that people can network and do research work at the same time.

I have an Ancestry.com & a footnote membership and I love them both BUT!!!!!!

As for making connections, getting real hands on help, this site beats them all. This is the best thing since Al Gore invented the Internert..seriously, the potential is just getting tapped. The sky is the limit and there is no competition. We have 10,504 members and they all share this wonderful obsession, genealogy. What could be better than this?

I suspect Ancestry will still be the largest overall site, even with the New FamilySearch and its Records site.
Smaller fee sites, like World Vital Records, can learn a lot fom the comings and goings of the monoliths, and from those that have faded out or have merged (see my Genealogy of Online Genealogy).

Really when one looks around the Internet-most genealogy on-line is still free - although not perhaps for specific records for every geographical/topic area.

Cyndi is an old friend -but not old- and she is sweet and without an ego. Talk about having your ticket to heaven very ready.

Organization, especially with library standards, will still help any site like this. The GenyWise team has great business and marketing minds, but I see no librarians or genealogists or historians.

Debbie, I too would have been lost without Cindi's list, that is still one of my favorite places to head to.
