What version of Legacy are you using? The newest build Legacy Deluxe Edition 7.4.0.6 has the 'Show Line Back to Starting Person' but when selected does not do anything. Instead of seeing "Judy (Louise, Michael, John)" as one would expect one just sees "Judy".

What is it that doesn't work with 'Show Line Back to Starting Person'?. I've just tried it and it seems to work but then I am not aware of what it used to do.

That is what I am afraid of. Thankfully, I remembered that I have an older version of Legacy on my notebook - haven't used my notebook in a little while, so what I did was export my data to a gedcom from my updated Legacy program and then did an import with the older version of Legacy. Ta da, it worked. The version on my notebook is 7.0.0.76.
I'm glad you reported the bug Ron and thank you for your response.

Or indeed the next update :-)

Judy,
I have checked this using a variety of settings and confirm the problem, which I have reported. I doubt if anything can be done before the nest update.

I am having a major headache with the updated version of Legacy Deluxe. The option for "Show line back to starting person" under the Descendant Book no longer functions. It used to but at some upgrade point, between now and 2 years back, it no longer functions. I am in the process of publishing my second book and very much want this feature. Can someone advise please?

Karen: The download tends to stall momentarily around 8 minutes. Do not be in a hurry, it will start again. Hope this helps

Anyone else having trouble downloading the latest version - I can't get a response from the download site - when I tried it from the link inside Legacy it died at about 8% and now wants me to go the download site - but that's not working either. Can't get into Legacy at all now! very frustrating!

In any future updates to SourceWriter, will there be anything dealing with non-population schedules?

My comment is addressed to those on the list who are not members of the Church but who are Legacy users and is to augment the comment added by Raedean (below) ...

I think some of the confusion in all this is due to misunderstanding of the purpose of the New Family Search (nFS) interface. Currently, this is the interface whereby members of the Church can submit ancestral names for Temple ordinances. There is no reason that a non-member would need to access this interface at the moment unless they were volunteering in a FHC where they were required to assist members in preparing Temple Submissions. Trust me when I tell you that Legacy's interaction with nFS is a God-send for those who need access to nFS on a regular basis, as without the Legacy interface, nFS is *painfully* slow!! There is no "restriction" in access to the data that is available in nFS ... the same information is available in a different format in FS. Since nFS is currently in Beta only, it is not unreasonable to have a focus group (i.e. Church members) as full access users until it is ready for release to the general public.

Now, as for transcribing of the microfilms in the vaults (FamilySearch Indexing Project) ... this is not related to nFS and is something that benefits all researchers everywhere. Access to all of this data is currently made through the "old" FamilySearch (FS) site [www.familysearch.org>Search Records>Record Search Pilot] and is available to any/everyone. I, personally, have arbitrated over 10,000 names and indexed thousands as well - none of them in areas that I would find my own records, but to benefit others. That's the joy of this!

I commend the Legacy developers who have undertaken to release a product that benefits the many (you must admit that Legacy is awesome!), as well as the few (i.e. for members of the Church to submit ancestral names for Temple ordinances). Many of you may not realize that there are at least four other software programs that have also released products recently that are "FamilySearch Certified". So the "point" in releasing a version of Legacy that interfaces with nFS is because the demand exists. One other company released a product that is an add-on to interface with the outdated PAF. Legacy developers have opted to include this the general release of their product because I believe they know that eventually it will benefit all of Legacy users.

Now, after all this explanation, if there are still those who feel that they need to insist on being able to access nFS before its release to the general public, we can certainly arrange for two very nice young men (or women) to drop by and explain to you the reasons why we do Temple work in the first place :) ...

I really hope this explanation helps. Essentially there are three versions of Legacy: Standard, Deluxe ... and "Super-Deluxe". The Deluxe version has features that are not available in the Standard version and, well, the "Super-Deluxe" version has features not (yet) available to all who use the Deluxe version. Just be patient! it will happen ... and there won't be any additional charges. And for those of us who currently have access to the nFS interface ... we are anxiously awaiting the 7.5 release so that we can import (update) our Legacy files with whatever information we find using the nFS search interface. Maybe we could then change the Super-Deluxe version to the Celestial version! :)

Cheers!
