Have you all seen the sale going on at Family Tree DNA?  It's a good, but VERY short term sale.  If interested, be sure to use the coupon code:

Richard, that is actually my  family tree on Ancestry.  My father, Richard Hughes, married my mother, Janet Straube.  I have searched and searched for more information on Franklin S. Hughes and have nothing.  Next weekend I am making a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to search through documents.... I hope to find something.

Thank you for your reply!

Hi Lisa...  There is some information on Franklin S. HUGHES on ancestry.com in the Forrester and the Hughesstraub family trees.

If you are not an ancestry.com member, I will download any information I can from that site for you...

Hello Everyone!

I am a new member to this group.  I was told by my Grandfather that our family is from Ireland, but I have yet been able to make it back that far, since they were apparently some very early American settlers.  The earliest I have is my GGGGrandfather, Franklin S Hughes, born 1813 in North Carolina, USA and after he married he settled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA.  I have been unsucessful in finding his parents, but the 1880 US Federal Census states that his father was born in Tennessee, USA.  That would date his father's birth back to anywhere from 1760 - 1800, which means his father may have come from Ireland.

While on a vacation in Riviera Maya, Mexico, I ran into two separate couples from Ireland and they both directed me to County Mayo or County Gallaway.  I have snooped around some records for those counties, but it seems to be very hard to find anything dating back into the early to mid 1700's, when I assume my ancestors immigrated to America.

Does anybody know of any good resources for that era?  If I do find the parents of Franklin S Hughes (I think his middle name was Solomon), I would like to be prepared.

Thanks so much!

Lisa A. Hughes

Hello to all,

I need to know how to find a birth record in Co. Kerry around 1830 - 1832. My GGGrandfather, John S. O'Sullivan was born in Farrannastack, Kerry, Ireland in 1830 or 1832. I don't know the parent's names. I know that John S. came to the U.S. in 1850 from Liverpool. He wrote in his diary (store ledger) that he was born in Farrannastack, Kerry, Ireland.

One of my Dad's cousins said that it is impossible to get the records from Kerry, but that was years ago. I am hoping one of you knows how I can find this lost GGGrandfather and his birth record, or any record about him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

John L Sullivan

Morning to all, I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are obits available from County Limerick for 1930. I'm looking for grandparents:

William Ryan born 1835, died 1930

married to Catherine Maher est 1850's?? Not sure.

Daughter: Nora Ryan

Birth 25 Jan 1887 in Bally Cullen, Croom, Limerick, Ireland

Mar'd Timothy O'Connor in Chicago, Cook, IL, (USA) June 17, 1913

She died 1984 in Chicago. (have census records)

Supposedly he was one of the last to die who were involved with the earlySinn Fein group.

He left Tipperary and moved to Limerick where he met/mar'd Catherine.

Also, looking for proof of birth of Timothy Joseph Frances O'Connor, born 4-15-1886 County Limerick, died in Chicago, Cook, IL (USA) in 9-11-1939. Parents Timothy and Hannah Hanrahan, Limerick.

Would like to find proof of his grandparentage, parents of Tim Sr, Possible father, Simon, Mother unknown

Any info is appreciated.

Thank you

Kerry (knkids@aol.com)

Hi! I am looking for Egan family from Dublin. I have someone who is going to travel to Dublin in May to look up records on my family. My gr gr gr Grandfather James Egan was a boot maker in Dublin. Does anyone know where I would find info regarding boot makers in Dublin during the 1800's era?

Cheers from Australia!
