Lorraine, I think you are right to be mystified by this story. Since the United States had been a sovereign nation for some 70 years before the incident you describe, there does not appear to be a legal reason for such a move. Transportation was a…

Thanks, Norman. Closing the state library would be a huge loss for all family historians. I suspect the library will be safe if the state employees approve the agreement their leaders made with the governor. Nevertheless, signing the petition is…

I am told that the Connecticut State Library is slated to close on June 30.  Aside from the significant and detrimental impact this will have on libraries and their patrons across the state it also means that people will no longer have access…

Hi Nora, I got my information on John Brown from some info my grandmother had. in about 1920 a family member named Perley Benton Brown did some research on the Browns in our family, this is where it came from. because I do not know who johns parents were, And I don't know who any of his brothers or sisters were, I would just be guessing.

Thanks for your advise. I have long suspected that it is misspelled. I have checked an old map of Galway, but found nothing similar. It looks almost like a place in Wales. Somebody along through the years probably didn't know how to spell it and just guessed. Will keep trying to locate something.
