Last week I mailed a new set of application papers from Lexington, KY on the morning of the 8th, and they arrived in DC at DAR on the 13th at 1:57pm. Thats six full days Priority mail with delivery confirmation, which I paid extra for. Pony Express did not take that long.
So if your papers do not get sent Overnight or Express mail, you can add a week or more to even reach the DAR headquarters.

Note to all, speaking as a Registrar, when you file your application papers please note, that if there are any divorces in the first two generations, or a name change after a divorce, this also has to be documented. If you do this up front, it will same the Registrar time and embarrassment of having to ask you for it.

Betty, as far as the wait time to have your application reviewed and accepted, there is no standard wait time. It depends on the volume the genealogists have to get thru, and the amount of documentation you have submitted, and the correctness of same.
They seem to be sailing thru lately.
Between Dec 10, 2009 and Feb 6, 2010 they verified 1,823 papers, and 593 Supplemental papers verified. They also verified 98 New Ancestors.
Out of all these and more, they only returned 24 papers unresolved.
Personally I want them to take as much time as they need to verify any papers I send in so I don't have to dig up more documentation.

For Leah, there are quite a few accepted female patriots with DAR, and they were just listed in our magazine "The American Spirit" and I just read it. But for the life of me, I cannot find it in this book laden house of mine right now.
The DAR Library is planning a publication called America's Women in the Revolutionary Era 1760-1790, and is scheduled for publication before the end of the current administration.
They have just published a book called Forgotten Patriots: African American and American Indian Patriots in the Revolutionary War, A Guide to Service, Sources and Studies.
You may order it from NSDAR or maybe find it at a large local genealogy library.
I would start with the state files where your ancestress may have given patriotic service, and check their Rev War records.

Hi all, so nice to find you all on line. I am Registrar for Transylvania Chapter, NSDAR in Lexington, KY. I can help in KY if needed.
NSDAR guidelines for Social Media states that they include the approved Disclaimer: "This site is not an official NSDAR Web site, and the content contained herein does not necessiarily represent the position of the NSDAR. This is in the Daughters Newsletter, May/June 2010, Vol 10, No. 3.
Also I am not an expert on DAR, just a Genealogist and Registrar.
Some answers can be found on line at www.dar.org.

Forgot to mention, I sent my papers in to Nationals in April and it took until July to go through everything and approve me.

I am still building my trees but I know that I have several Revolutionary War ancestors that would qualify me for DAR. Just have to get my initial genealogy data entry done then I can pin down the details of the REV War ancestors to complete the lineage. How many lines do we need to prove our eligibility? If only one, then I may have that done already.

I am not sure. I do know there are three girls in my local DAR group that started the same time as me and they are still gathering the information. It also depends on when the committee meets to review everything. There was a hold up because some of papers had to be resubmitted because the secretary printed them on the wrong type of paper. I'll try to find out from one of the girls who is also is my genealogy club I belong as to the average time for acceptance. It probably depends on how long it takes to collect all of your documentation and you get it sent it and when the committee meets. I know it was held up until the end of July because of the nationals.

Betty Jo, based on your previous comment from February, it looks like it took about seven months for you to earn your membership. To me that seems like a long time. Do you know if that is the standard wait time?
