Earl Reemt Duthler replied to Michael Helmantoler's discussion 'Huguenots in Salt Lake City' in the group Huguenots
I'd love to, Michael, but not possible. I'll be in Michigan for a wedding of my step daughter around May 1 and then visiting heavily with family, but traveling further won't be possible. But I'd like to be able to. I do have a…

Earl Reemt Duthler commented on Debbie Anne Jackson's group 'Germany and German Ancestry'
Thanks, Charles and Catherine. I doubt if they were 'colonizers' as they are recorded in the very same location since 1660, and the word colon is used to describe many of them through the generations. But I think Charles has hit it, for…

Earl Reemt Duthler commented on Debbie Anne Jackson's group 'Germany and German Ancestry'
Can anyone tell me what the word 'colon' really means in the context of German genealogy archives? My mother's side came from Grafschaft Bentheim and emigrated in the later 1800s. In the archives, I frequently see the word…

Earl Reemt Duthler replied to Henk van Kampen's discussion 'Who are your Dutch ancestors?' in the group Dutch genealogy
Hi Marilyn, GenLias is quite simple to use and is the collection of archives from all provinces in the Netherlands. Large site, which I often use. http://genlias.nl/nl/page0.jsp. The site also has an "English" choice at the top;…

Earl Reemt Duthler commented on Debbie Anne Jackson's group 'Germany and German Ancestry'
The group graphic is a good one, Debbie. My main research in Germany is my mother's side: Masselink and Masseling. Traced them back to 1660, with a lot of help from a great genealogy site: http://www.online-ofb.de/ They put much of the archives…

Earl Reemt Duthler replied to Jennifer Eklund, PLCGS's discussion 'Genealogy Software'
As an after thought, Jennifer, if you're looking for a free program, or one to just import a GEDCOM to for viewing, one I've not seen mentioned here is Ahnenblatt. I use this to view others' GEDCOMs so I don't have to mix them…

Earl Reemt Duthler replied to Mitchell Staude's discussion 'Genealogical Researchers in Germany' in the group Germany and German Ancestry
I'm looking for connections from Germany/Holland to the Huguenots, who came out of France and many settled mostly along the German/Dutch border. I've traced my maternal side (Masseling/Masselink) back to 1660 in and near Uelsen, Grafschaft…

Earl Reemt Duthler replied to Mitchell Staude's discussion 'Genealogical Researchers in Germany' in the group Germany and German Ancestry
If you know the names of the towns or provinces in Germany from where your family came, this is a very handy data base by the Association of Computer Genealogy in Germany. Once at the site of a town/province, you have the option of using English or…

Earl Reemt Duthler commented on Michael Helmantoler's group 'Huguenots'
I've not been able to trace back to France, although my great maternal uncle researched this, but without stating any detailed sources, and his research is a bit questionable in some areas. He claims, and I think rightly so, that his family…

Earl Reemt Duthler replied to Nat Ins for Genealogical Studies's discussion 'Help us determine the level of censorship at GenealogyWise'
Darned little moderation needed, in my opinion. And no censorship. Only material totally unrelated to genealogy and perhaps obvious disrespectful posts need to be deleted. Including intrusive commercialism. Mostly a non-issue.

Earl Reemt Duthler replied to Saskia Hallam's discussion 'Abbreviation' in the group Dutch genealogy
I would think this means "ontbonden" or dissolved, Saskia. Likely by death, as divorce was uncommon then. Remarriages, sometimes several, because of death of a partner were common. Earl
