Hello

I joined Tilehurst because William Doe (1770 - 1858) was my 4th great grandfather, apparently! I see that Anita Davey is a descendant of his too. Rebecca Pike was his grand daughter, and her daughter Freedom Buckland (or Miarhena, as she was at birth and on her gravestone), was my great grandmother. She and her husband Sampson Williams (my great grandfather) settled in Lambourn Woodlands. My grandmother was their daughter...hence I am related through the maternal line.

Hello
Olive Kate Wickens had 3 siblings bap in Tilehurst.
Parents John Wickens 1844 Englefield and Mary Ann Illsley 1846 Tilehurst.
They were:-
Alice Elizabeth 1868 marr Samuel Taylor 1863 Poole, Dorset. I have 2 children for them Samuel's father was William Taylor
William Thomas 1871 marr Alice Huggins 1871 of East Garston, dau of Francis and Hannah nee Cox. I have one child
George Henry Wickens 1873 marr Lilian Maud Dormer 1873 Reading dau of Alfred and Ann Maria nee Cooper I have 3 children fro them.
Olive Kate Wickens 1875 marr George Taylor son of William James Taylor.

John Wickens of Englefield is consistent in his age on the censuses from 1871 to 1901, if not his birthplace. It is only in 1881 that he says born Englefield. Otherwise Tilehurst.
There is no baptism for him in the Tilehurst PRs and in 1851 Berks Fhs transcript the only John in Englefield is 9mths old son of James and Eliza. In fact, there is no John Wickens of the right age, so I stopped my research there.
John married Mary Ann Illsley, dau of Thomas and Maria nee Hawkins 9th June 1867 Tilehurst. He was buried in 1910 by a Congregationalist Minister.

Anita and Rosemary

According to my computer you are 3rd cousins once removed.  Anita is a 3rd cousin of my husband and Rosemary is his 3rd cousin once removed.  I am often in the Record Office so may meet you there one day!

Hi Anita,
George's brother Thoma born 1825, baptised 12-07-1825 was my great great grandfather. He married Hannah Myhill (Miles) also born in Kingsclere in 1845, their son William born 1848 led to my grandmother Annie Elizabeth born in 1878. I never knew her as she died long before I was born. Mum was her and Walter Holland Bristol's youngest daughter. I was born in Downing Road Tilehurst. I think this may make us distant cousins.
