This is photo of William leading a parade, I've been trying to date it, but haven't been successful yet.

Hi Myss-

1847 would be close to when William was born, maybe when his parents came to PA, if they were from Ireland?

Thank you for the research!

Here is a list of villages in Butler township: I forget which site I found it, but it'son the attachment which is in Notepad.
villsinButler.txtHi Kate,
I've been researching the Butler area. Turns out Butler township of Schuychill county, Penn is/was composed of over a dozen or more villages. The village of Levalle was first started or named by a Martin Levalle about 1847. Whether there is some connection remains to be seen.

HIya Myss-
In my research on the Fulton site, I found a Richard Baker doing a show in Buffalo during 1897-99, do you know where Camille was at this time? I'll see if I can figure what the articles says- its one of those less clear scans-

On Footnote, I found three classified ads where Colonel W.A. Lavelle was casting children, women and men for the "The Last Days of Pompeii" in June of 1903, in Atlanta, GA. He was listed as 'Stage Director' on the ads. I will post the ads in a discussion thread.

Also, according to an article regarding his marriage to Henrietta, supposedly Henrietta was a ballet leader for this show and he resigned his position to court and marry her. :)

(they married in July 1903. I don't know how many other productions of this particular show William was in charge of but this was the first particular show I've seen evidence that he was involved with.

great! I always thought he may have meant Butler County, but I also remember seeing the Schuylkill Lavelles before but couldn't connect William to them. ;)

thank you!

Hi Kate, went to Ancestry and tried this way of searching. Butler is in Schuylkill county, Penn. I'd remembered I'd see Lavelles there. I went to 3 specific census years, 1880, 1870, 1860 in that place. I searched for blank first name blank last name only criterion born in Ireland-scanning for Jame, William, Annna. It's a tiny place, so there were not too many listed to quickly scan through. One farmer family of Lavelle there but no William in 1860, . I checked Family Search for Donegal Ireland. Found Sweeneys there, not much Lavelle. Nothing listed for Innishone.

But, there was a Lavelle in Butler. So pursuing that.

Get this: "The Chicago Opera House" most likely is this place --in Ohio, where Henrietta lived! Check this site "Vaudeville in Ohio" http://userwww.sfsu.edu/~hl/v.html

I found the article on Footnote and there are a couple of articles on the production in the NYTimes, but nothing more on Richard and Henrietta yet-

Hi Kate,
thank you for the Baker clue. I began to figure the Baker would cross paths with the Lavelle...that's part of my fervent searching! I read through Ms Rosch's bio too. I've been lost in EJ PHillips website, reading about the three Palmer theater groups. Union, Madison-Square and Wallacks/Palmer. The Madison-Square group lasted 6 years, ending 1890 when he started the Wallacks. So that may be when William decided to stay in Chicago.
