Hi Shawn,
I took 'Coneybeare' at face value ! When trying variations I find Lilian Conybear born March Quarter 1895 Stoke Damerel, Devon. This, I guess, must be the one to whom you refer.
Best wishes
Sonia
Hi Shawn,
Censuses are not always 100% with dates !
I too have access to the 1911 Census but am not able to do look-ups due to the policy to which I am bound ! However, if you could let me know her parents and any siblings that you have found…
Hi Shawn,
The name Coneybeare appears to be quite uncommon. There are not a lot of them about !
I have found a Lilian May Coneybeare born in Plymouth in 1901. There do not appear to be any births for Coneybeare in 1895.
Have also found two…
Hi Kate,
Correct ! This is indeed how the name came about. Poor Louis seems to have fallen on hard times which is what intrigues me if he did indeed come from such a family. 'Actor' came out of the blue.
Sonia :)
Hi Sonia-
A quick google brings this up:
http://www.answers.com/topic/alexander-james-beresford-hope
So, I believe that James is Alexander, he was Alexander James. :) He apparently, took the Beresford from his stepfather's name, but he was a…
Oh, my word, Kate !
Or should I call you Sherlock ? I cannot say if he was one of mine but....the Beresford-Hopes, from what I have researched, came about in 1854 when two families married. So James must be in there somewhere. Googling always goes…
:) Good morning Sonia, that's okay, I know I get my folks mixed up at times.
Out of curiosity, I found references to a James Beresford-Hope, who had a statue of Stonewall Jackson made and brought to the US in the 1870s, he died in 1887, is he…
Hi Kate,
Morning to you ! Thank you for that but I must correct an earlier error on my part. I was in a rush to go out and incorrectly stated that Oswald was Louis' elder brother. In fact Oswald was his SON as you so rightly pointed out. Ivan…
Good morning Sonia-
I think we need to find a resource for British newspapers like we have for the US. I was hoping if he had worked as an actor in the US, there would be a reference to him in theatre books on Google, or on the Fulton, NY site…
Hi Kate,
Much as I would love to trace Louis' mother ( I have his father's name Charles Beresford-Hope) it is the profession of Actor that intrigues me ! I must be fair as this group really is about Actors and Actresses .
As I have not…
Hi Kate,
I found this reference recently. Oswald is Louis' older brother. He pops up in the Passenger Lists using his full name. His occupation was 'Imperial Censorship' which I am reliably informed would mean he was probably…
Hi Sonia-
I found an Oswald Beresford-Hope, age 52 arriving in the UK from Bermuds on November 19 1942, I'm wondering if this is Louis's son? Did Oswald start using the full name again?
You are quite right, Kate. It is 'Horton's Ice Cream' ! He then becomes a 'Commercial Clerk' ( Marriage Certificate) and 'Actor' ( Death Certificate)
On my grandfather's Marriage Certificate he lists his…
I am trying to find out more about my great grandfather, Louis Victor Beresford-Hope. Since beginning my family history research just over three years ago he has remained something of a brick wall !So far these are the details I have for him. He was born in Dijon, France ( British Subject) around 1872 although the only evidence I have for this is the 1891 Census. On his Marriage Certificate his name appears as Victor Louis Beresford-Hope, on his first son's birth certifcate as Louis Victor…See More
Hi Sonia,
Thank you so much for the information about Thomas Gribble Bevan. I am sure that it is my husband's relative as I can't imagine there being two people of that name born around that time. Is there anyway you can trace what happened to his siblings. Did they emigrate to Canada too? We have a copy of his marriage certificate which took place in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada and his witness is James Bevan but we have no idea of the relationship. We just assumed this was a brother but maybe was a cousin instead. We would really appreciate any more information you could find for us but fully appreciate that you have your own tree to research and realize that you may not have the time. Many thanks for the information you have found so far.
