This is photo of William leading a parade, I've been trying to date it, but haven't been successful yet.

It's frustration plus when I find the same stuff repeated nearly verbatim about Camille D'Elmar from the NY Times article which I had to pay for a couple of years ago when nobody heard of her or cared. Father's surname is given wrong, and the error has proliferated. Now I find on Findagrave some one has posted an article about Camille that I wrote! My own words for a cemetery publication that isn't out yet. Sheesh! This is what makes online searching difficult, running into one's own research when you see promising matches to a search query. (Thank you for letting me vent!)

here's an example of bad OCR mangling a name : Camille D'Eluiar
from a poor scan of an old newspaper. The "surname" should be D'Elmar.

I add the manglement to the search queries as I get'em.

Hi Kate, the outbound passenger list was under that "Col. Lavelle", heh.

Hi Susan. :)
Actually my FIL's great grandfather was William A Lavelle, a stage actor/Wild West Actor who almost made a living because of his resemblance to Cody. :)

I look forward to reading your posts about David Doyle, he was the best thing about Charlie's Angels. My fourth cousin once removed is actually one of my closest relatives even though we are very distantly related. :)

And I have another very distant relative on my Trueblood side who was born in Nebraska. :)

Hi-
Where did you find the outgoing passenger list? You got me, LOL. :) I had the return trip but not the outgoing-but in looking for William, I think I may have found his first wife on a passenger list in the UK immigration records in 1900, which would explain why I couldn't find her if she was away for a decade.

ack, I meant, my math is poor, that Smith was YB from 1909 to 1913. Lavelle went to Aust from 1912 to 1913, so theoretically, the time line fits, if they rehired Lavelle as YB.

by 1910 the way I read the article, Smith was the "Young Buffalo" from 1909 to I guess 1914.

I found a "Col. Lavelle" who went to Australia on board the ship "Ventura" 1912 and I found a William Lavelle returning from Brit. Columbia on the ship "Tahiti" in 1913. No occ listed for the outbound voyage but "theatrical' listed on the inbound, home listed as Chicago. from Ancestry.com passenger lists.

The funny thing is that he was in hist late 50s, early 60s when he was 'Young Buffalo'. I do think 'Cal' is a typo for Colonel. There is a photo of the actor who replaced him on the Circus site, I believe?

So, what is strange is that it was 1910 that Cody sued the Young Buffalo show, so they must have created a new show with William?
