Hi everyone

Don't miss the party! See the announcement on the Main Page for the invitation to the NIGS party, should be a lot of fun, so put the date in your diary now!

I am currently taking the Social Media class, as well as one on United Empire Loyalists. I am working on my Canadian Records certificate. I am looking forward to exploring GenealogyWise more extensively!

Great article in Internet Genealogy, Oct/Nov 2011, about NIGS. The article by Gena Phillgert-Ortega is an overview of NIGS and its courses. For those wanting to learn more about NIGS check it out or go to http://internet-genealogy.com/ to subscribe to the magazine.

There is a very good article about ‘autosomal’ DNA testing in the Dec. 2011, Family Tree Magazine. I found the articled helped me understand it better and there are links identified to other resources connected to this newer DNA test. The test is more expensive then basic DNA testing so not as many people have taken this test.

I have been researching the families of my four grandparents (Woodrow, Pullman, McMackon and McKever) for about 20 years.  The inevitable has happened, and the surname search has expanded to include others, such as Beamish, Swanton, Stone and Reycraft.  I am enrolled in the Social Media course and have found it useful as it has explained and demonstrated to me how social media websites can be productive for genealogy research.  Other than basic message boards and mailing lists, the various sites and techniques are new to this retired guy.

I am currently taking the Social Media course, my first with NIGS, but definitely not my last. I have been researching my family history and that of extended family for 20 years, and am hoping that some proper instruction will help me knock down some of those brick walls that have loomed up in front of me.

I am currently taking the Social Media Course.  I am an amateur genealogist with a passion for research.  I'm working towards becoming a certified genealogist.  I am retired (but still consulting)  and I can't think of any better way to make money than to combine income with something I'm passionate about.

Has anyone else had trouble getting in touch with NIGS lately? I've been emailing the past month and have yet to receive a response.

I have taken several courses with NIGS and continue to work slowly toward certification. This Social Media course has nudged, sometimes shoved me, toward using social media that has become instantly useful in doing my own research for family and their historical contexts.  As social media evolve I believe that I will expand my own explorations with "the new" in the belief that it will benefit me and my research.
