Where to Post

I'm trying to organize things a bit so I've made threads in the Discussion Forum for each county. If you know where the people you are researching lived, please post your queries, information, etc. in the appropriate thread/county. If you don't know where in Indiana the people you are researching lived or if they lived in multiple counties, go ahead and post to the Comment Wall below. Also, if you feel your post is urgent or you want it to be viewed by the whole group, post to the Comment Wall. As always, everyone is also still welcome to start their own discussion threads.

Since Genealogy Wise doesn't allow the option of displaying ALL Discussion Forum threads, some won't appear below. If you don't see the county or discussion that you are looking for below, click on "View All" in the bottom right of the Discussion Forum and you should be able to
find it there. Thanks!

Due to spamming fears, I am (for the time being at least) disabling the option of messaging the whole group. If you have a message you would like passed on to the whole group, get in touch with me. If you receive a spam message in your Genealogy Wise inbox along the lines of "Win a Cruise" please get in touch with me right away and I will take care of it. Thanks and sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

I suppose Indiana Genealogy is a good one to try, since that's where most of my relatives come from. I'm looking mostly in Counties: St Joseph, Elkhart, Clinton, Cass, Fulton. Surnames include SEDAM, CRIPE, BURNS, MERCIER, BOWMAN, MILLER, ULRICH/ULLERY/ULREY. Right now, I'm working on an all-surname study of the CRIPE family, very much "kissin' cousin", with all the in-breeding. Diana

Hi all!

My brick wall is James Madison Dehority (1819-1890) who came to Madison Co. about 1836 from Delaware. His family was very active in Elwood. Can't find out who his parents were, though.
His wife, Susanna Huffman (1817-1899) came to Fayette Co., IN, to join her brother John after her parents died in Kingsport, TN, according to her obit. I've found John, but not the parents yet.
Other IN names that I am researching in the same areas are Mauzy, Moore, Bobbitt, Hupp, and Stokes.

The Indiana line I am working on is SMITH. They originally came from Clay County, Kentucky. James Farmer Smith (1854 - 1933) was the father of 9 born and eight of those SMITH children ended up in Indiana.
The children are as follows

1. Mary Elizabeth Smith born 1874 Married Thomas Jefferson Johnson
2, Joe Smith born 1876 Married Margaret Jane Gregory died in Brown
County in 1966
3. Martha Smith married Brockman and Travallian and lived and died in Ohio
4. Wiley Smith born in 1881 mrd Orphie Willis and died in 1963 in Scott County.
5. Hiram Smith born 1883 mrd Nancy Brockman and Mary Poppe and Lou Anna Abney, Died at 93 in 1976 in Washington County.
6. Jesse twin to Hiram born 1883, mrd Nancy Elizabeth Smith, his first cousin and died 1974 in Scott County.
7. Tom Smith born 1884 mrd Delcia Lee and Ollie Collins died 1961 in Johnson County.
8. James Farmer Jr born 1886 mrd Minnie Reeves and Lizzie Isaacs, died 1954 in Batholomew County.
9. Henry Smith born 1889 mrd Edie or Eda Powell and died somewhere in Indiana after 1972.

Ironically Jim Farmer Sr. never lived in IN but eight of his nine children did. He moved to NC in 1900 from Clay County and had a new family of five more children.

Any SMITH help would be so appreciated.

My Stephen Ogan and Hanna Elliott were married in Indiana. All children born in Indiana. By 1855 the family was in Calhoon County, Kansas entering from someplace in Iowa and Hannah has died in Kansas. Stephen re-married to the widow Abigail Bretz and they had my great-grandfather William Emerson C. Ogan
