Hi there, My paternal ancestor in Hull was my great grandfather, William Gage, sometimes spelt Geadge, b. 1826. He moved to Hull with his family from Little Ellingham, Norfolk, via Seaton, Yorks., in 1851. He remained in Hull at various locations with his family until he died in 1898. I have not been able to find his burial place nor that of his wife Maria, nee Hall(s) b. 1831, d. 1913. William at the time of his death lived in Sculcoates as also did his wife on her death.

George Wright doesn't appear on the Brian Langley's database 'Lost Trawlermen of Hull', There is a George Wright but he was 24 when he perished in 1919.

Hi listers.... I'm interested in JOSEPH LAWRENCE - the 1881 census shows him and his youngest daughter Emily Gertrude as being in the Alanby Road poorhouse. I live in NZ so it's nigh on improssible for me to obtain any records easily so if anyone is abkle to do any lookups in local newspapers for me to help me locate any details, I'd be very grateful... I'm guessing that he would have died / been buried in the area but as yet haven't been able to lcoate any death details but if anyone is out and about and spots any headstone relating to any Lawrences, I'd be very interested to try and follow up.....

Cheers! Lynda, Christchurchm NZ

I don't know a lot about my East Riding connection. My Dad, his father and mother and many generations on his Dad's side are from the West Riding, but I found my Mum has an East Riding connection!
My 3greats-grandmother was Ann SKINN b. 26 Aug 1811in Swanland, she married 3greats-grandfather William HADLEY who was from Staffordshire, they married in 1835 in Staffordshire. Ann's father is Robert and mother Ann - but I don't have a marriage for them. There are two other children I know of; Mary b. 1817 in North Ferriby, and William baptised in 1820 in Swanland. I know a little about William SKINN's children, but very little of the SKINN family other than that. Any bells ringing?

My interests in Hull focus on the WAUD family. The earliest connection is the marriage in 1793 of John WAUD and Rachel BURGAN at Holy Trinity Church. Later generations remained in Hull though several - James Bergan Waud, James Arthur Waud and Thomas Henry Waud - came to Australia in 1883. Origins of the Wauds before this mention in Hull are as yet uncertain.

Another family branch lived in various places in the Holderness area. The VERNON family moved with the railways from Inverness, Scotland to Beswick (1848), Hedon (1854), Preston Gates (1856) and finally Ottringham (circa 1870). The parents died in Ottringham and descendants lived at Thorngumbald, Sunk Island, and other nearby villages. Associated surnames include CLOSE, TENNISON, CHADWICK, DUNN and JOHNSON.

Would welcome contact with anyone who has an interest in these families or who can assist with the origins of the Waud family.
