Hello Liz -

Do come & join the England group -
http://www.genealogywise.com/group/england/

It has links to many of the county groups now, so is an excellent central
point for links round the country, and a focal point for news & discussions
relevant to England.

How wonderful! My Thompsons probably started out in England, but there was and are so many of them--as we say here, "The Woods are full of them"--it's really hard to exactly pin down which ones came from which area. My direct Dobkins line that has the Thompsons in it, came from Virginia (in the late 1700s) and some went to Kentucky; some stayed here in Tennessee. The Kentucky bunch migrated on into Missouri at about the same time-or with the Dobkins. It is obvious the families knew each other "before". At any rate, my great-great grandfather, who was born in Tennessee in 1811, married Sara Thompson-who was born in Kentucky. Sara's family migrated to Missouri, where she and John Dobkins were married; and Sara's sister also married into the family fringes--marrying a Garrison. My sister is married to a Garrison, who is descended from Sara's sister's line. To make a long story, short, my related family links, who married into the Dobkins family--namely, Brickey, Goad, Compton and Lambert-also have Thompson ties. It's like a big bowl of spaghetti!!!!!

Thanks for the tip. I love your logo picture-looks like your just waiting for someone to come up the street for a chat! I'll certainly see what I can rustle up in Holbeach.
