I've added a new link section to the Crewe group, and have started it off with a link to Ormerod's History of Chester which is now in the Internet Archive. The book contains a detailed pedigree of the Crewe line in Cheshire back to Henry de Criws in 1150 and also details of the Nantwich Crewe line. Has anyone done any research on these lines? Can anyone claim descent from Henry de Criwa?
My Crewe Family origniates from the Crewe Area, Audlem, Hanmer Bettisfield etc, but my grandad moved to north wales to marry grandmother. We are now Welsh Crewes but have kept a few family tree links going.
I asked my husband and he told me his father's parents were descendants of slaves. So yes, they were. He has family in England, Alberta Canada, and New York.
Hi Linda, How interesting that there are Crewes in Jamaica. Are they all descended from slaves? Slaves often took their names from their owners. The surnames Crew and Crewe seem to be fairly widespread across the UK and we're not sure where the name originated. There is possibly a connection with Crewe in Cheshire.
Okay Cousin Jim, let's look for the Crewe connection. I am anxious to find our UK link before I travel there again. Cruwys Morchard was very intriguing but probably not our home (unless by a distant connection).
