David McKeown Comment by David McKeown on April 10, 2011 at 7:46am

Greetings everyone. My name is David McKeown and I am researching my Powell family. I am looking for information that relates specifically to Archibald Powell(1763-1836)who married Sarah Ten Broeck(1766-1855) around 1792. I have had reasonable success tracing data up to Archibald but beyond him is a blank. I am fairly confident he traces back to the "Long Island'' Powell's but am missing that link. Any help would be appreciated. Again for clarity below is a brief overview

Archibald Powell/Sarah Ten Broeck

AbramT Powell/Sarah Field

Joseph Powell/Lucinda Hosner

Fred Cecil Powell/Grace Arnold

Mary Morony/ Donald McKeown

David McKeown (ME)

Thank You!

I am searching for a branch of the Powell family who lived in Coventry, England in 1800. Particularly the son, John Thomas, born 1807.

Hello Linda,
My POWELLs originated in Brecon, Wales. The migrated to London, Virginia, Ohio and from there all over the USA. Aye, they intermarried with nearly every ethnic group I can name.
Linda Comment by Linda on July 28, 2010 at 7:30am
Dae,

I have noticed that some people moved around a lot while others stayed in one place during the 1800-1900s. My Powell line is from Georgia but I don't know if that is where they originated.

Do you have information about your Powell's ethnicity? Immigration led to intermarriage with Irish, English, Natives, etc.

Thanks

Gosh, Ron. I rec'd something todae that might help you from Mikki.

Hi Dae

I was given your web site link in the AOL genealogy room. I noticed that your surname is POWELL. I am also searching POWELL genealogy. My Mother's maiden name was POWELL.

The best I can tell is that this line goes back to a Thomas POWELL, who settled in Bethpage, L.I., NY after buying 15,000 acres of land from three different Indian tribes for £140 English pounds.

Are you of the same POWELL Family? If so, I would like to exchange information.

I go back through my grandfather George; his father Edward Frost POWELL; his father William Bishop Bound POWELL; his father Obadiah POWELL; his father Moses POWELL. I have not yet found out who the father was of Moses, and hope maybe you could help.

These families started out at Bethpage, LI, NY, and Moses moved the family to Westchester/Dutchess Co. area, and then to Stillwater, Saratoga Co., NY.

It is thought that at one point, Frost POWELL settled in Steuben Co., NY around 1810-1815 as my gr-gr-grandfather William B. B. POWELL, was born in 1819, and at that time there were some POWELL's in the towns of Hartsville or Hornell, then some of the family moved back to Stillwater, while some stayed in Steuben Co.

I believe it was because Frost POWELL's first wife had died and he remarried and had more children and his older son from the first marriage stayed there, while Frost remarried either before or after he left there; later Frost and William B. B. left Stillwater and eventually settled in Wisconsin.

My gr-gr-gr-grandfather Frost POWELL moved his family to Waterford, Racine Co., WI along with him, my gr-gr-grandfather, William B. B. POWELL, who married Mary Anne SPROAT, d/o of David C. SPROAT and Sarah KITTREDGE SPROAT.

David was b ca 1795 Albany, NY; Sarah born Hinsdale, MA ca 1800; they married 1819 in Dalton, MA and moved to Fair Haven, VT within a few months after their marriage. In 1844, David move his family to Waterford, WI.

I hope some of this information will help you to find if there is a link between our POWELL lines.

Thanks again for any help.

Mikki
