My 4th great grandfather from edgefield, SC William S Thornton married Elizabeth Walker Thornton. This is documented in the book --The hard labor section. Eli S. Thornton, Sr., was most probable Eli's son. I worked with Kenneth Jacob Thornton and found a history and lineages of our line. If anyone else is connected to this line OR Daniel Thornton please contact me at: or 415-279-4818.

Hi, My Walkers were originally enslaved under the Simkins in Edgefield, and ended up on James Edward Calhoun's Millwood Plantation in what is now Calhoun Falls, Abbeville Co. when he married Maria Simkins in 1839. I haven't figured out why they adamantly chose the Walker surname. (Calhoun left land in his 1889 will to his "faithful servant" Caroline Calhoun, but she always called herself Caroline Walker.) Do you know of any connections between Walkers and Simkins in Edgefield?
