I now live in Greenville, S. C. Originally from Columbia. I have about 15 files going all the time with about 230,000 names in my computer.
Serch for Aiken, Perry, Prevatte, and I help friends with their searches.
Just wanted to see what this new site is all about.
I hear you on the cemeterys. It's a respect thing for me. There is a group of dedicated volunteers here in Anderson County who are working with me to create a database of the burials in our county. We've located over 200 cemeterys so far, and I think there are more that we've not found yet. We're also working with the county historical commission to get HTC status on a few every year. Eventually we'll get them all recorded. Our database will have photos of the stones, obits, death certificates, and short bios where we can find the information. Eventually it will be on the internet, but at the present time you have to visit the library here in Palestine to view it. I can and will do lookups and will send photos and such to email addresses.

My Parkers are tied to yours in two ways. The first would be through Elder John, the grandfather of your Martha Patsy Parker. My ancestor was her father James' brother Benjamin, one of the ones who died at the Fort. Benjamin F. had a daughter named Rebecca Parker, who married William Joseph Chaffin (Sr.) Here's where it gets kind of confusing. W.J. Chaffin's father was Eli Chaffin, who as far as we can tell came to Texas with the Parkers. Eli died not long after arriving, and his wife, Lavena Chaffin, married James Parker, who was her son's uncle in law.. (or something like that!) So Rebecca's mother in law later became her step aunt.
Sounds weird, but you have to remember that without cars or other fast transportation, familys intertwined like that a lot.

It is a shame that so many companies care more about money than they do about people. This is not just for the dead but for the living. As far as the cemeteries goes it is my belief that when a cemetery, isn't kept up or desectated, that the persons in those graves are treated as if they were not important. Every person is important. They don't have to be big heros. Just raising a family and working the land means that they are part of history too.

I don't know where to begin with my search living here in South Africa. My Dad's family (Marsh) are reputed to have come from either Barnstaple or South Moulton, probably about 1860 when two brothers left . One (Edward Henry Marsh b.?)came to the Cape and my Dad's grandfather (John Legge Marsh,b 1841?) went to lecture at Curepipe University in Mauritius . When he died after marrying in Mauritius Jeanne Marie Charlotte le Gras b.?), his children then joined their Uncle that had come straight to the Cape. Do you know how I can find out more about the Marshes?

Make that Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, not GA as stated. And I ran out of hard copies of The Pate Pioneers, have plenty of CDs if anyone on this site is interested.
Sherry I appreciate you asking me to take over the Pate group. But there is no way I can do it. My husband has cancer and was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in Dec. I can no longer leave him alone. I have help two mornings a week to do housekeeping. My sister took me to Colonial Williamsburg, GA last year for the Convocation. I am on the Pate L and get all the news that comes across there. Two of our Daniel Pate b. ca. 1802/1812 NC , descendants have given DNA. That shows he is from Thorogood Pate but does not tell us how. I am still in touch with Dr. Jim Peacock, who is writing his last section of "Pate Pioneers on the PeeDee River" I joined this because it seemed it may benefit me and others by working together. I have put all 22 issurs of "The Pate Pioneers" on a CD. I was asked to do that because so many people had been asking about back issues. I ran out of those a long time ago. I am willing to help when I can, but just cannot be responsible for anything else as long as I have my husband to care for. I know you are busy but hang in there girl. All of us are pulling for you.

She was my g g grandmother. Pat Kyser who wrote to you asking about the cemetery and Elizabeth is her g granddaughter, my first cousin once removed. Her mother and my grandmother were sisters. Our entire family, until this generation have always been pretty clanish. Most of our friends are family. It has just been the past few years that I have made a few friends outside the family. Oh, sure I have one or two long standing friendships, two from my school days, and one I met about thirty years ago. Enough about that...... I have such a few hours to work on geneology, and I am so slow that it seems that I hardly get anything accomplished. And as close as my family has always seemed, I have had the devil's own time finding anyone past g g grandparents. Since I am a great grandmother myself, and my children and grandchildren all knew my mother, it just doesn't seem like it should be so hard to go back at least a little farther than I have. The only line I have been able to follow way back, is Riggs, and my mother and her sisters who were all living when I first started this said that was the only family I would have trouble with because their grandpa had left his family in NewYork and came to Texas to marry their grandmother. Other than an old newspaper clipping and two old letters they knew almost nothing about their Papas daddy who died two months before their papa was born, and their grandma died before his second birthday. His first six years were spent with his mother's brother 'Uncle David". The next eight years were spent in Bayland Home for Boys, on Morgan's Point in Bayland, Texas. Both of mama's grandparents are buried in the Penn family cemetery located on a gravel company's land just out of Crosby, Texas about a mile from the San Jacinto River. It is noted on the Key Map for Harris County, Texas, but Alice and I have searched many times and never found it. My aunt who is 101 years old said she could remember the cemetery being just across the buggy road from their home when she was a small child. She said it was a big cemetery with about thirty graves and right in the middle there was a small section fenced off with a decorative black iron fence and one of the stones inside the fence was small and had a picture of a lamb on it. She told me about two years ago that she would like to go put flowers on her grandmother's grave just one more time before sh dies. I wrote to a man who's name and address was listed in an article on the ancestry.com web site. but I got no response. I even wrote and emailed ancestry and still got no response. the cemetery is not located where the key may says it is/ That is the only thing I know for sure. Guess I have bored you long enough. I hope to learn how to use this site before long. So far I do not find it easy at all to navigate. Lots of luck with your hunting. Thanks again for the photo Betty
Hi, Could you help me to find someone who could take a photo of the gravesite of Anne (nee Roszak) and her husband Fred MacFarland, They are buried at Karnes City Cemetery, Karnes County.
Anne died on the 12 September 1958 and Fred died 3 Nov 1962.
Sherry, do you have a picture of the monument you told me about in the old Monk Cemetery. The monument was dedicated to Elizabeth P. McAdams by her son William Carroll Teal. I would like to have a picture of the monument if it is possible. Thanks, Betty
