Today I have officially gone to the dogs!

Call it "Dog Days of Summer" or just plain biting off more than I can already chew...I just opened up my grandson's family tree website to the dogs or their ancestral pets.

I have been knocking this idea around ever sense I got the GenBug after I retired from my work in Animal Welfare. The idea, was to provide a place for folks to post their ancestors pet's picture, hopefully with the owner, if not, just the pet will do, I even quietly entered a pet on ancestry.com and quickly… Continue

German Ancestors

I have been browsing the members section and it seems that pretty much everyone I come across, including myself, has a German country to search or are connected to Germany in some way. I wonder why this is?What are your thoughts on the subject?

Anyhow, let me tell me why I am interested in Germany. My great-great-grandmother, Jalie Caroll was born to a German mother(identity unknown), and a Black father(Mr. Walter Carroll). She then came to the states and met and married my… Continue

I made a reference in a previous blog about feeling hugged by my ancestors when sitting among my grandparents scrapbooks, photo albums, journals, etc., when I was 16 years old. A new found friend on GenealogyWise emailed me and said he liked that phrase, "hugged by ancestors." A few of the back and forth emails had the subject line "Hugged by ancestors," and I have not been able to get this phrase out of my head since.

As I pulled a few different genealogy files out today to look up… Continue

When I got bit by the genealogy bug...

Everyone has a story of when they were bit by the genealogy bug and their entire lives were transformed to trying to get as much information as possible about their family. This blog will share mine. I will also post this as a discussion forum to hear others stories.

My paternal grandfather died when I was 16 years old on December 17, 1993. I was a junior in high school. Both sets of my grandparents lived two hours from my house in different directions, so I was never close with any… Continue
