Shar Pearce replied to Michael Alan Lewis's discussion 'Butler County Information' in the group SouthWest Ohio
I tried to reply to your posting, but think it went to someone else.   I am interested in a couple of Lewis names out of NJ and possibly Hamilton Co., OH.  I research this area along with southeastern IN - I ignore the state line between…

To M.A. Lewis   I have read your entries and commend your efforts.   I generally research south eastern Indiana but also some in Hamilton, Butler, and nearby counties as to New Jersey and New York migrants, many having some connection to…

Lori, Per your post of Sept. 11, I did check the two websites. The data at the second site I already had. I did scrutinize the site on Hugh Montgomery. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that my Samuel Montgomery was not closely related to…

Culture of sw OH 1796 to 1820s? Why to IN? Pearce, Decker, Bennington, Rogers, Higgins, Laurance, Oliver, Lathers, Shepard, Barker, Montgomery

I research 4 sets of gg grandparents. At least five of the 8 surnames, plus many collateral families, migrated through southwest Ohio, staying there for a time. I have searched the names. I and other researchers have searched the public records (that were not destroyed in early fires). Perhaps by obtaining a visceral feel for the locales, one might better understand why some in families stayed in place and other members may have moved on. Most of mine went into se Indiana as soon as it was open…See More
