Greetings from Southport, N.C., down the Cape Fear River from Wilmington where my from Chester, Penn., Bradley & Sharpless family settled before the Revolution. Capt. Richard Bradley, Sr., was a Continental Line paymaster & merchant; he wed Elizabeth Ashbridge Sharpless, daughter of John Sharpless, III, and descendant of George Ashbridge, Sr., first servant, than aide to Wm. Penn. If memory serves he wed the daughter of Quaker martyr Rev. Randall Malin. I was an INT mechanic for Piedmont Airlines when USAir took over with Randall Malin, V.P. of Marketing. He said when a child, a Sharpless aunt died but he never understood the connection, so I looked his up. I've seen an ancient photo of the old, small Sharpless home in old Chester. Wonder if it is still there? Have a year 1800 Bradley letter, saying Ashbridge said Penn thought American Indians were a "lost tribe of Israel". A common believe then. Some early American Jews believed that also.

Hi Leah. I haven't gone as far back as you yet on my Burnett line. I've only traced my direct line back to my 4x Great Grandfather, John Burnett from Millplough, Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire. I haven't found John's wife yet, as John's son's (Alexander) birth record doesn't list her! I haven't looked yet at the collateral lines and so far I haven't found or rather haven't looked for anyone immigrating to the US. My family is rather "new" to Canada. I'm first generation Canadian on my mom's side and 2nd generation on my dad's side. Perhaps we do have a connection. Do you have any Burnetts that stayed in Scotland?

That's what I like, too - everything is about genealogy or interests (old photographs, obits, etc.) that have a bearing on genealogy. I figure I'll use Facebook for sharing my research with family members, but I'll use this to share questions, information, etc. with fellow genea-holics.
