My Great grandfather, Banks Tate was a mulatto born in Georgia abt 1835.  His father Willis Tate also a mulatto, was born in SC.  Both names being so common at the time it is very difficult to break the brick wall.

I forget how, but my c1830's Rachel Tate of Guilford/Rockingham Cos., N.C., somehow tied-in with my Malcolm, Malcom, Page, Woollen, Heath families from that era and area.

My Tate family are from the New Forest town of Lyndhurst in Hampshire, UK.

The Tates that I am researching are from Illinois and Texas. Ezekial Tate married Bethsheba and one of their children was Mirendia Jane Tate b. 12/21/1850 IL d. 9/26/1918 Texas. Mirendia married John Joseph Taylor.
