Hi all. My Neals are concentrated in the western Carolinas - we straddle the border of North and South Carolina southwest of Charlotte, NC.

I did some digging when I got a free trial on ancestry.com and found that the surname started out as "Mille." My great x12 grandfather was Edwarde M Mille of Ilfracombe, Devon, England. It later got changed to "Mills" in 1578 when my great x11 grandfather, John Mills ( he lived in England as well), was born. And then got changed yet again to "Neal" when my Great x5 grandfather, John Neal of Columbus, NC, was born in 1770.
