MyHeritage.com acquires major family network OSN (Verwandt.de) to accelerate building the world’s family graph

With 13 million family trees, 47 million members and 530 million profiles, MyHeritage.com becomes the largest international site dedicated to families on the web

MyHeritage.com, the company that connects families to their past and to one another, today announced a significant expansion of its global family network through the acquisition of the Hamburg-based OSN Group, which operates a network of 10 market-leading family sites, including Verwandt.de (Germany), Moikrewni.pl (Poland) and Dynastree.com (USA).

Hi Jo,

I’m very happy you enjoy the tools we build for you genealogist, and you say it.

At MyHeritage we take privacy VERY seriously. That's why, by default, no information about living individuals will be revealed to a non family site member. The prove is my own website, which you can see here: http://www.myheritage.com/site-17611501/dydo

Off course you can always make your site completely private, but then how the cousin you haven't meet will find you? ;)

If someone has SmartMatches (coincidences between people in your tree and people in other trees) is not only because they share the same name and last name. We implement top of the line algorithms that check for dates, places, close relative, etc. So in most cases we will give you a real match and ONLY THEN the person will be able to see details of the coincident person; after all, you already have his details on the tree. To learn more about SmartMatches visit http://www.myheritage.com/help/2009/02/what-is-smart-matching%E2%84...

Finally, we are always in the search for bugs and glitches, and the first source for this are our users. Do not hesitate to take a snap shoot of the screen were the glitch appear and a 2 line explanation - no more than that ;) - will be more than enough to activate our response team.

Happy holidays and many MANY thanks
Daniel Horowitz

I love family tree builder, I have the premium edition, and I wouldn't swap to any other genealogy programme now, BUT, having said that there are a lot of glitches, which I if I reported everyone I would not be doing research, I love the Smart Match facility, though you have to be careful, and watch what info goes on your tree. All in all a very good programme that I've recommended to others.

Did you hear about the "International Black Genealogy Summit"?
http://blackgenealogysummit.com/

MyHeritage is going to be present and every attendee will receive a copy of the Family Tree Builder 4.0 free software.

This seems a very good opportunity to do research at the "Allen County Public Library" as they will have special extended hours to research, the list of speakers is very impressive and really looks like a well organized event. Kudos to all the people involved.

Hi Lewis,
It all depend. If you are working with the program Family Tree Builder, you should be able to change the data in your computer and then publish to your website.
If you are working directly on the web, you may not be logged in to MyHeritage.

Please send me more details to daniel@myheritage.com so I can help you

Best regards
Daniel Horowitz

For some reason, I cannot edit the spelling of names or change dates of birth and death. What am I doing wrong?

Daniel's 2nd and final part of the "USA Genealogy tour" blog post is live !!!!

"The Philly conference was also attended by Schelly Talalay Dardashti (who writes the MyHeritage Genealogy Blog) and together we were able to welcome a new MyHeritage team member Laurence Harris as Genealogy Advisor for the UK.

He was very helpful during my workshop and we three got together to exchange ideas, talk about the genealogy field and even managed a quick lunch out of the hotel in spite of the hectic conference schedule. Laurence will be working from London, where he lives with his family.

As part of my theoretical family vacation - there is no such thing for a workaholic genealogist addicted to the computer - we went to Pennsylvania State University to visit my brother-in-law, who's studying for his master's degree. The Blair County Genealogical Society, in Hollidaysburg, PA kindly re-scheduled their usual meeting day to fit in with my travel plans.
