New to this group, looking forward to getting involved. I've been using Legacy for about 3-years.

Help! I must have done somethng, but I don't know what. The button bar with the picture icons for sources, notes, etc. has disappeared from the Individual Information screen (except for the temple). When I open the screen, all the buttons flash on, and then disappear, just leaving the temple. To add sources, I have to cick on the temple, get into the ordinances screen, then click the source button, and scroll to the event I wish to add a source for.

Can't for the life of me imagine what I have done (not aware that I did anything, actually). I have gone into Customise and tried to figure out what I need to select, but I'm at a loss. With my old dial up, it takes minutes sometimes to open up just one screen, so going the long way round is REALLY inconvenient and time consuming.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ron, Stephanie
I find that my "date problem" happens in OOo. If I use the date format xx,xx,yyyy then most of my dates appear correctly. For the ones that don't (1904) I can switch to default format and the correct date appears - I'm working on it.
Stephanie - if you use text formatting, the sorting of the data base is odd.

I did that first, Ron with no luck but I guess the results are the same. It's fine now and the dates appear just the way they are in my file.

That is not how I did it - I changed the column in Open Office to a Date column and formatted that.

I figured out my own problem and will put it on here so others can see what do do if they are working in Open Office with this Gedxlate. You have to change any dates from the automatic "standard" to "text" on this screen you get when you create your file to be put into a spreadsheets. This will give you the complete date as you have in your file. Be sure to highlight all columns that contain dates you wish to keep in text format.

Stephanie, how have you set up the date in your spreadsheet (which is it btw)? I am wondering if you have it set to only display the last two numbers in the year.

I have had a look at my own GEDCOM and in Gedxlate created a csv file, following which I imported into OOo. Like you only the last two digits of the year displayed until I reformatted the Date style for that column.

Hi again,

Was checking out my spreadsheet here that I made from using the Gedxlate. Problem is with the date format. When I enter my dates into Ancestry.com I use the day, month, year formula (ex.: 6 Apr 1900). In cases where I don't know the day I put in Apr 1900 and other times I might not even be sure of the year so I'd put in "abt 1900." Well, in my spreadsheet the date 6 Apr 1900 appears as 4/6/00. Not good as that doesn't tell me if it's1900, 1800, 2000 or whatever.

Any ideas on a workaround?

Well, just downloaded a GED from Ancestry.com and opened it in Gedxlate after selecting the fields I wanted included. I then saved it out to open in Open Office as a CSV file and it worked like a charm. I did some reformatting on the dates and checked out a few things and it seems to be fine. I love it! I'm going to find this quite useful. Thanks for the great tip, Ron!

Stephanie, I don't know much about this program except that I do use it from time to time.

David, I can only suggest that you have a look at the GEDCOM file in Notepad, or any text editor - Notepad2 or PSPad would be better and see if the date is in the GEDCOM - I cannot see how the program can invent a date :-)
