Genealogy Tips and Links

This group was created for anyone who would like to add a link , or a tip for anything to do with genealogy. I really would like to get as many free tips , or sites as we could. However, I know there are some great pay sites out there for research.

Caveat to the post about CastleGarden website - it contains names of passengers on ships that sailed into other ports and not just New York (Castle Garden processing station) So be very careful using the site as they do not notate what port of arrival the ship came into!

Finding an ancestor's name there does not necessarily mean he/she sailed into NY and was processed at Castle Garden

For more help with this time period see Castle Garden Ships Passenger Lists to New York 1 Aug.1855 - 18 Apr. 1890

In Norway the census 1801, 1865, 1875 (not yet complete) and 1900 are online. So are all the most of the churchbook (all free) Digitalarkivet

Hi Folks;
Here in Ireland we have only 2 Census returns, and they are 1901, and 1911.
Now at last our National Archive Library has started to Digitise the Census for 1911. County by County. So far there are only some Countys up on the site, but they would be the main ones, Dublin, Cork, Galway, Kerry. so on. It is a wonderful sight for anyone who had family living in Ireland in 1911.
The sight is www.census.nationalarchives.ie
Best of luck with your searches.

Regards Alan
