My paternal gr grandfather arrived in NY on 21 Aug 1866; he was with several siblings and mother. The father, Joseph Dean, was not on the SS City of Dublin w/the rest of the family (I believed he came over in the spring, but have not been able to confirm it). The family appears in the 1870 US Census, Delaware New Castle Newark, and members have been in the area since. (I live there currently) Several male members worked in a woolen mill owned by another family of Deans. My fondest desire would be to link my Deans with the mill owners.

For those of you researching lower Delaware.

The Laurel Historical Society has published Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel, Delaware. The book is a comprehensive listing of families interred at the Cemetery (4,965 names), gives an overview of the Cemetery’s history, highlights special features in the Cemetery, and some family stories. The book also includes pictures of some of the stones, a listing of organizations and symbols, and maps of the various sections of the Cemetery. It is a very good genealogical source of information for researching other cemeteries as well.

The book can be purchased by check from the Laurel Historical Society, P. O. Box 102, Laurel, DE 19956, for $35.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling. For more information, contact laurelhistoricalsociety@hotmail.com

I just wanted to tell everyone about a seminar on 10/17/2009 at Washington College in Chestertown (Kent Co.), MD. It is called "Destination Delmarva" and will feature 8 different presentations on genealogical topics pertinent to the area. It is co-sponsored by the Maryland Genealogical Society and the Delaware Genealogical Society. More information can be found at MGS or DGS websites or at www.colonialroots.com.

Hello everyone. One of the families we are researching is the Carey Family from Sussex County, Delaware.

On a side note, I am the editor of the newsletter for the Sussex County Genealogical Society. The newsletter's next deadline is Sept. 19 for the October-November issue. If you would like to post a query you can contact me through www.scgsdelaware.org.

in re to Joshua Stroud Fletcher:
My fourth cousin once removed called yesterday, and she found information through the DAR that takes our Fletcher's back to England! :) So now I just have to wait for the snail mail to arrive!! LOL

Hi-
I'm stuck on finding evidence of the birth of Joshua Stroud Fletcher, circa 1784-85. We believe his parents to be Samuel and Elizabeth(Stroud) Fletcher. But we can't find any records to back this up. We think he was born in New Castle, Newark Delaware, and he had siblings, Edward and Eliza. There may be one more sibling, but I'm not positive.

thanks!
Kate

While no known family is from DE, I am residing here and more than willing to pay back the assistance of others by "paying it forward"... :)

Hi Kathleen!

I'm honored to get a mention on your blog....I've been on vacation and am just now getting caught up on all the goings on in the blogosphere. Where can I find this post....I'm not getting it on the Carrow and Faunt Family Tales site?

Mary
