William Read of Hampstead

Does anyone have any information on William Read [~1758 - 1840] of Hampstead?

His Gravestone at Hampstead St John gives him as aged 82 in 1840, implying birth in 1758 (although his Death Certificate has him dying aged 81). But the earliest definate record I have of him is the Land Tax Assessment of Pond Street, Hampstead, dated 29 June 1783. He and his first wife Frances had 9 children baptised at Hampstead St John, the earliest being Elizabeth Ann Read, born 13 November 1783. Frances' maiden name is as yet unknown, although the only marriage in England listed in the IGI between a William Read and a Frances between 1773 and 1783 is to Frances Butcher, 7 October 1782 St Mary Marylebone.

William's death in 1840, inconveniently before the 1841 census, means I don't even know what County he was born in.
