Seeking info on the following children of Martha Mary ANDERSON and Albert Victor ANDERSON of Footscray/Kensington area in Melbourne.

Edith Mary ANDERSON born 1912/13
John William ANDERSON (now deceased) born 1914/15
Janet May ANDERSON (my Nan Iris Doreen Anderson may be her twin!) Born 5/2/1917 (my Nans DOB)
Albert Victor Jnr ANDERSON born 1919/20
Lorna Peggy ANDERSON born 1926/7
Christopher ANDERSON (deceased) born 1924/5

I have been able to download copies of death certs for Albert Victor Snr, Martha Mary, John William and Christopher but they dont state DOB. The others dont seem to exist although I havent been able to access library records/microfiche files etc as I live in East Gippsland! Would dearly love to see pics of these relatives, there was a "falling out" between my Nan and her sisters about 40 years ago and they were NEVER spoken of and any photos/records were destroyed. Bit sad really!

Thanks so much

Tania

Hello
I have been trying to find a Death for DANIEL WOODSIDE born 12 January 1884 in Ballycastle Antrim Ireland. He lived in Cornwall England from 1904 until about 1927 when he disappeared. He was a Seaman and the last voyage I have found for him was in 1923. He doesn't appear to have died in England, Scotland or Ireland but as he had visited Sydney & Brisbane on his voyages I wondered if he had come to Australia around 1927. Is there an easy way of checking if he came to Australia. Another option was Philadelphia in USA but he doesn't appear to have gone there.
Thanks
Pat
Hi all, I'm looking for suggestions for a brick wall of mine. I'm researching James Andrew MARSHALL, who was born in Manchester, England in about 1820. With every branch of my family, I have been able to find details, leading me back to England, Ireland etc, but information on James is very scarce.

I have "Manchester" as a starting point, with that coming from BDM certificates. However, none of his children's certificates are helpful. His Australian marriage record (married 1850, Sydney. to Matilda Hazel MORTIMER) offers Manchester, and there is an occasional reference to James having been a shoe maker, or boot maker, but that's about it.

James and his family lived in Grafton, NSW. However, I have no death record for James, as neither I or other Marshall researchers have located his death record, having looked at all James MARSHALL's. The last records I have for James are a directory reference in 1871-72, and his last child's birth record in 1884. His wife died in 1901, in Granville NSW.

I'm not quite sure if I should be preparing to do a blanket search of Lancashire for James MARSHALL's, and even if I do, if that will provide me with enough evidence to know I have the right man. I'm also unsure if a blanket search will provide me with the right immigration details, because an occupation which may have only been taken up in Australia, is hardly enough to connect the dots to an English passenger (convict or otherwise), right?

A bit unsure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
John
Hello, I finally found this discussion when I saw a comment about the View All Link while browsing the comments, and after posting messages asking for help to find this LOL!
I'm new and when I found that several members can look up Australian BMD's I immediately thought of one of my brick walls. Most of my research is in the UK but some branches of my family came to Australia and New Zealand.
One lady in particular is a mystery.
Her name is Ada Maria Jane Ruffles, nee Sheldrake, b 13 Sep 1867 in the Thingoe Union Workhouse in Bardwell. In the 1881 census she is a patient in hospital at Bardwell.
She was the first wife of Alfred Ruffles (b. Bardwell 1866, d New Zealand 1948, my 3rd cousin x4 removed). They were married 16 Oct 1886 in Bardwell and left firstly for Brisbane, Qld Australia aboard the Taroba in 1889, and then on to New Zealand. Alfred remarried in New Zealand in 1907. But what happened to Ada has been a mystery and there are only family stories to go on.
The family story is that Ada may have died on board a ship and been buried in Sydney, Australia. The husband's second marriage certificate states that she died in 1906, but no one has found her death entry yet, so the death on board ship could well be true. No burial has been found either. The only confirmation of this possibility is that a Mrs A Ruffles departed Auckland and arrived Sydney 8 June 1906 aboard Westralia.
It's possible Mrs Ruffles was returning to the UK when she left NZ due to problems with her husband! There is a record on Ancestry in the Shipping records for an A. M. Sheldrake going to the UK but I'm unable to view at the moment as I don't have a subscription.
There is always a possibility that Ada didn't die when her husband said, and she may even have settled in Australia or completed the trip back to the UK but I'm not sure of how to establish that. I did try searching electoral rolls in Australia but found the system rather difficult to navigate and couldn't check in all States. And I haven't of course got access to the 1911 census to check in the UK to see if she pops up there again!
So if SKS can search BMD's in particular for Sydney, it may unearth something, or if somone can check the shipping records on Ancestry, or even the 1911 UK census any of these might yield some clues. I have details of the shipping entry if needed. I searched 1898 to 1960 records using Ada Maria Sheldrake Ruffles and it came up with the entry for A M Sheldrake in the first place.
Thanks you in advance!
Christine
