so sorry for not replying to this message sooner than this - have a very ill father and not a good time the last few months. Thanks for this info. I shall look into it.
Thank you for the warm welcome to the group Geniaus. I will try to maintain my connection with this site however, along with my research interest, I am also a prime carer for my darling mum (85) and also my husband who have both had significant health issues over the past 3 years. Despite all, Genealogy is still my passion. As yet, I haven't even familiarised myself with the whole genealogywise site:).
Thankyou so much for the welcome Geniaus :)) I really love the hunting.. brick wall at the moment, but will find a way around it. I suppose it's because I am a newbee LOL!
Geniaus I had a look at your Woodheads but no immediate connection that I could see. My Benjamin settled in Fitzroy in Melbourne in 1850ish and before then Yorkshire around Huddlesfield area. I dont have a lot on the yorkshire end and there were a lot of Woodheads around there. Of course the name comes from Head of the Wood where the family probably originally came from in Yorkshire.
Hi it may be a little misleading the title of the photo. IT is acutally taken in Victoria. The title on the photo happened when I downloaded off my camera to my new computer with vista and it named them all wisemans ferry lol.
hi geniaus, as I was reading through the comments I saw your reply to Christine where you said
" one of the problems is that when people add new discussions then those like IF YOU WANT HELP/LOOK UPS POST IT HERE disappear down the list. I wish that, as administrator I could keep the more general discussions at the top and visible but that isn't possible"
I am on a photography group (Flickr) which has discussions and if an important one looks like disappearing down the queue, the admin (or anyone) posts a new reply that just says "bump" and everyone reading it understands that the purpose is just to "bump" the post back up to the top of the discussion list again.
I just thought it might be an idea that would help you here.
Some forums also have what they call "sticky" posts which always remain at the top but perhaps that function isn't available here.
My woodheads were the Melbourne crowd, none of your names are familiar at this time. but you never know. There was a lot of them in Yorkshire where there is a town named Woodhead, also it means they originate from the head of the Wood. some clever person has decided it was an occupational name coming from the wooden blocks used in printing, however the name has been around longer than the occupation.
Hi, saw your comment on google wave. Been looking for an invite, I don't suppose you've any spare? I'm looking to use it both for genealogy and to get the kids at the primary schools I work at, started in advance!
