Happy 4th Blogiversary to our Legacy News blog

I still love birthdays. When I was little my mom hung streamers, balloons, and a big Happy Birthday sign on the wall. Today, my wife continues the tradition, minus the streamers and balloons. I still get the big sign. And I still look forward to it. Maybe I'm just trying to hold on to my youth. (I did find my first grey hair this year though....)

Today marks the birthday/anniversary of a different kind. It's now been four years since our first Legacy News blog article was… Continue

Blog Statistics

For some time now I have been using Statcounter(http://www.statcounter.com/) to track statistics for my own blog www.hillmansofelgin.blogspot.com. Its free and easy to insert into the blog by following instructions.

Some of the statistics are useful when deciding what to put into the blog. Some are just for fun. For example, I find that people use Google96.87%,Yahoo!21.53%,Google Blog Search10.76%,AOL UK10.76% ,Bing10.76%, and MSN10.76% as their search engines.

Today I have officially gone to the dogs!

Call it "Dog Days of Summer" or just plain biting off more than I can already chew...I just opened up my grandson's family tree website to the dogs or their ancestral pets.

I have been knocking this idea around ever sense I got the GenBug after I retired from my work in Animal Welfare. The idea, was to provide a place for folks to post their ancestors pet's picture, hopefully with the owner, if not, just the pet will do, I even quietly entered a pet on ancestry.com and quickly… Continue

What is a blog carnival?

Anyone who has been following me or my group GeneaBloggers here on Genealogy Wise will know that I post several events each month including blog carnivals.

I often need to be reminded that - just because I've been blogging about my genealogy research and family history for almost three years now - not everyone is familiar with the concept of a blog carnival. So here is my attempt at an… Continue

Research is boring, but rewarding

I'm Michael Lamka of the Ohio part of the clan. I've been actively searching for family roots since about Family Tree Maker V2.0. My last version was 10, decided I was not entirely happy with the reviews on the newer versions so tried some free/trial downloads of other software and finally settled on Legacy 7.0 Deluxe.

I signed up for this social network in hopes of receiving assistance and creating a strictly genealogicol place for my siblings and other relatives to keep track of… Continue

Your Genealogy Blog - Content Theft and Guarding Your Internet Reputation

Just a heads up that many genealogy bloggers are seeing their recent blog content reused at splogs (spam blogs). Just like spam and every other scam that seems to invade the Net, periodically blog content theft rears its ugly head and hits even genealogy blogs.

I've written about this extensively over at the GeneaBloggers.com website and you can read more… Continue

Do I Need A Genealogy or Family History Blog?

Technology - and specifically the Internet - has allowed many of us to make great advances with our own genealogy research. And it has given us the ability to connect and network with other genealogists on sites like GenealogyWise.

My colleague Elyse Doerflinger who runs the Elyse's Genealogy Blog has another… Continue
