Finding New Branches

What a joy to expand a branch on your family tree.  I was recently contacted on Facebook by a young woman who asked me if I knew the connection from their family to mine family.  I emailed the young woman and told you I would take a look and see.  Well, after about three hours of researching and comparing trees, I found the branch.  We connect from my 3 great grandfather Martin Etnyre, her connection is his brother Lenhard Eidenire. WOW is all I have to say about connecting with a branch that…See More

"I think you will be disappointed in your search for tombstones. While there are "Family Plots" in many places, the practice of burials and tombstones is quite different in Germany than it is here. Usually after about 25 years, the grave is…"

Catherine Davis replied to Shelly Kay Eitniear-Cherry's discussion German Ancestry in the group Germany and German Ancestry
"You probably won't find tombstones for these early dates because Germans re-use cemetery plots, and build new graves on top of older ones."

The website I submitted was my very first website I had ever created. I am in the process of creating a new family history website. I also maintain my schools website at: www.crutchoesd.org.
For what reason did you start genealogy research?
I was adopted when I was two and had always been told I was adopted and was special. When I was in high school wanted to know where my brother and sister were living. My mom helped me get started and it was just like doing genealogy, I had to interview people, research at the court house, visit cemeteries for family names and dates, and I found my brother and sister, I was hooked. I started spending even more time with my grandma gathering information. I have since help others get started in their research. I am a school teacher and teach in the computer lab and my middle school kids learn how to research their family history. I am a member of many genealogy sites on the Internet like Find A Grave, were I volunteer to take cemtery photos for my county, I also have submitted several photos from the cemeteries I took photos of when I was younger.
Do you have a genealogy website or blog?

Hitting That Brick Wall!

Have you hit a brick wall in your research? I am sure all of us have a brick wall on a surname at some point or another in our research. I have had several. What do you do about it? How have you broken down that brick wall?

I have had a brick wall on my SUTHERLAND family and of course I am at a brick wall with my SMITH family. I had my Grandpa SUTHERLAND, my Great Grandpa SUTHERLAND and my GGGrandpa Sutherland but could not go any further. I thought it would be easy as my GGGrandpa's… Continue

Do you happen to have any family roots in the Greater St. Louis, Missouri area. My maternal grandfather was Verner Allen CHERRY who was born in Macoupin County, IL and died in Madison County, IL. His wife was Daisy Irene KIDD who was born in Washington County, MO and died in Madison County, IL. Since you are researching two of my grandparents names, it got my attention immediately.
