For what reason did you start genealogy research?: I'm an "accidental genealogist" - became interested when I was studying for an M.F.A. in Nonfiction Writing at the University of Pittsburgh. I needed a topic for my thesis and decided to write about my grandmother's immigration to the US, my mother's experiences as a first generation American and how their choices shaped my life.

My parents were both Slovaks who were born in America, and all 4 of my grandparents came from the same village in Slovakia. They immigrated to Bethlehem, PA around 1900 and met there. I grew up in the Lehigh Valley area of PA, and I have had a life-long love of the Slovak culture, but I did not learn the Slovak language growing up. Thank you for writing my story. You did a beautiful job!
