Egbert Family

I start a Egbert Surname list. I know that I'm not the only person research the Egbert name, sometime I feel like I'm. My Egbert came from Staten Island, New York to Ohio to Iowa. But where were they before Staten Island ? Maybe someone can help.

My husband probably shares ancestry with you. Oney Gentry is buried in the Creson Cemetery in Missouri along with her mother-in-law Celia Steelman Cain, w/o Thomas Cain. There are no Cain burials but the stones may have been destroyed through the years.. George Creson, also buried in this cemetery was the son of Joshua Creson and Rebecca Steelman, a sister of Celia/Cecelia. I have more data on the Steelman family, and have you seen the Gentry research webpage.
Shall we talk?

It's quite possible. The Egberts that my family married into were out of, I think, Warren Co., Ohio. They settled around South Bend, Ind., for several years. Then Paul Egbert Jr., son of Peulis, and much of Paul's family moved on to Clayton Co., Iowa.

FYI, this site is wrong on a key point:

Peulis Paul Egbert died in, I think Warren Co., Ohio. His widow and several children moved to South Bend, Ind.

Hi Debra,
Take a look at the rootsweb link I sent you. Most of my work has been on Paul Egbert, son of Peulis Paul. My 2nd gg aunt married Paul's brother Elisha Egbert. My 2nd gg uncle married Paul Jr.'s daughter Nancy Egbert. And the daughter of Another 2nd gg aunt married Harvey Egbert, a son of Paul Egbert Jr. aka The Rev. Paul Egbert.
Perhaps some of your ancestors interminged with this batch. Were your folks in Clayton Co., Iowa? Almost all my obits are out of Clayton Co. and are from the Paul Jr. line. I'd be happy to send them to you if you like. They are also in the notes section of the rootsweb link I sent you.
Cheers,
John

Hi Debra,
I didn't realize that you run the site:

I've e-mailed you several times in the past. Did you get the big batch of Egbert obits that I sent you out of Iowa? There is quite a bit of new stuff here:

I've previously sent you some photos and stories on Elisha Egbert.

I may join the Sparks Association as I've never been a member of it. Guess thats part of what makes genealogy an expensive endeavor along with everything else. If you ever need any info from my side of the Sparks or anything just let me know I'm happy to share.

Hi Debra,
I'm not descended from an Egbert but I'm quite interested in the family. Several of Peulis Paul's descendants moved to St. Joseph Co., Indiana, abt 1830. The families, both Methodist, seem to have gotten along. Two of my gg grandfather's siblings and one of his nieces married into the Egbert family. There may be some marriages that I've missed.
While one of these lines seems to have died out. The other two may still be going. I'm still trying to track down some of the descendants.
It sounds like you've found it but my Egbert data is here:
